Comments (5)We have a similar set-up - in through the back door to a small porch then into the big square utility room and on into the playroom/spare room/den (depending who's using it) or kitchen. The thing that always bugs me is that everyone comes into a such a functional area rather than a welcoming space. I'm not overly bothered about the house looking like a showhome, but I feel I need to remove the laundry and tidy up the abandoned school bags, shoes etc if we're expecting visitors. People who just drop in get the full messy effect :) Also, if the washing machine or tumble drier is going while we're eating it's quite a noisy backdrop, so make sure you can shut them away. I would make it easy to separate the messy area from the kitchen and dining area so that mess and mud don't 'bleed' into the nicer areas. A really good sized porch with proper storage and room for more than one person would be great....See MoreKitchen in - what wall colour/splash back?

Comments (9)Hi Mally, From the image it looks like your house has soft mud bricks on the exterior. Bricks have a dominant character in nature. They may steal the focus point at glance from your front door. Deep-tone coloured doors complements brick I would advise to have white or same colour shaded windows and door frames. Dark shades can be elegant, welcoming colors . Additional tip , you might consider carrying the same style to the garage door. As it will create a design flow throughout the front view. Comments (3)I honestly think putting a cat flap in the nice glass door would be sacrilegious! 😂 I think it would be easy and probably nicer to get your architect to design a nice discreet access for the cat flap through the brickwork (almost like a brick vent). Example This one is just kitschy and cute....See MoreTani H-S
