Barn conversion lighting ideas needed
Comments (10)I agree with Jonathan, make sure you have dimmers so that you can vary the level of lighting. You need to consider different layers of lighting; pendants and downlighters will throw light down, whilst uplights either on the floor or walls will throw light up and illuminate the lovely beams you have. And don't forget lamps will throw another dimension in. Having the ability to vary these using dimmers gives you lots of versatility to create different moods depending on what you are using the space for. You may want to use some spotlights that you can angle to wash light down the walls or highlight a picture. If you can stretch to it, a system like Lutron gives you greater flexibility over what you can achieve with your lights. It's basically a super-duper, all-singing dimmer switch that can allow you to program different moods according to how you are using the room. For example, when eating in your dining room you may want some downlighters on a low setting providing a background ambient light whilst the feature lighting (ie. pendant &/or picture lights) are slightly brighter. It's the combination that will make it much more warm & inviting. Have a look at books by Sally Storey of John Cullen lighting (or their website) for more inspiration. Your 3rd picture was of Bocci 14 lights. These come individually or in groups (some custom made installations of these involving hundreds look absolutely incredible, with a price tag to match!). The actual dimensions of each ball though is only 10cm, so you may find you need quite a few to give you enough light & wow factor. Comments (16)Another update - I managed to get it painted by the time hubby got home, but haven't put anything back yet. He was really chuffed. Thanks for all the suggestions and help so far. I decided to go with white. The grey colours just seemed to suck away the light when on the wall and I felt I either had to embrace the darkness or go whiteish. Decided to slow down and take my time choosing by chair and accessories, but will hopefully have another update once we've got stuff back in and bought some bits and bobs.Thinking of shades of green if there are any more suggestions. Also going to see if our local handyman / carpenter can quote for some shelves / doors to hide some of the clutter we will inevitably have to put back. Also hunting for a table lamp, magazine files / storage boxes, maybe some fake plants (no light!) and something to put the phone on or next to that will hide all those wires....See MoreI need to light a large but dark hallway with a low ceiling. any ideas

Comments (13)I bought a very similar version as in the screenshot. It was perfect for the kitchen. It was perfect for the kitchen. Cute, small, but enough size and power. It gives a nice light, not harsh, properly diffused. And I bought it really cheap. But for my loggia, that`s spacious enough. I decided to buy a lamp that doesn`t use electricity. I found one on amazon, as well as flag pole lights. I think it’s perfect cause the loggia is on the sunny side, so the lamp stores the energy and gives off a soft and pleasant lighting at night. I don't really prefer to sleep in total darkness and this kind of lighting helps me doze off. So, for those who have a balcony or loggia, I strongly advise buying these!...See MoreAmber Jeavons Ltd
