Struggling with L shaped lounge. Please help. Any ideas welcome
Comments (5)I don't have anything wildly different to add but I like sketching ideas so here's my two cents! You've already figured out the best position for your sofas and tv. Just pull the sofas in a bit as Jen P suggested and pull the ottoman back from exile, and already you'll see a difference. If you're tired of the carpet, try a dark wooden floor with a huge rug? Carolina is spot on with the wraparound tv console..I'd add shelves around the corner for books, photos, and a few favourite items. Then you need two fantastic armchairs. This is where you add personality and purpose to that dead space. It becomes a cosy conversational corner for when you're not watching tv. Nice and close to the kitchen for refilling your wine/coffee! You're lucky that pretty much any colour and style of chair will work with the sofas. If you're really feeling brave, the chairs don't even have to match each other...! You can draw from the burgundy/rust colours in your cushions, or just find chairs you love and use them as a starting point for a new colour scheme. One last thought...is the door to stairs used a lot, or can you go around by the kitchen? If you could block it and extend the built in unit all the way along, that would be even better......See MoreLounge layout. Ideas please
Comments (9)It’s probably too long for one seating area. I’d have a sofa opposite what used to the be the fire and a chair in front of the window. To avoid the corridor feel you need to add things in the middle of the space, so add a coffee table/ottoman (a round one I think would work better) and bring the sofa away from the wall a little. Use a rug to zone that area. You could have a reading area at the kitchen end of the room? If you paint the shorter walls a darker tone it will ”correct“ the rooms proportions. Mirrors on the long walls can help but think about what it reflects! I think painting the skirting boards in the wall colour will help too as your eyes are just drawn to the white atm...See MoreLounge ideas please
Comments (6)Thanks for the ideas. I am keen to paint but not quite yet. Planning a mirror above the fire but all the ones I like are out of stock! I was going to go for a round one? I've ordered a mid century bookcase to put against the left of the patio door wall but I'm going to see how it looks in the space and it might have to go in the dining room. I've ordered some funky art prints for above the couch. I'm trying to stick with mustard, powdery pink and bluey grey tones as those are the colours I have in various items in the room already. I think I just feel like it's a bit empty. I might wait until the things I've ordered arrive and take it from there. The window above the couch I could make into shelves, I'll give that some thought! I feel a bit disappointed I can't use the alcoves. Husband is dead against TV on wall so that's a no go. Could possibly add shelves above built in unit on the other side of the fire?...See MoreCupboard understairs ideas
Comments (3)Hi Ricky, I love Ginas idea of a wine rack! Other options (depending on what you hobbies needs/ are) could be a library wall, great if you have a house full of books like me Or could be a used as a mini office space or study area for the kids with a pull out desk? If you could move the seat into the room at the end of the day you could keep the doors and close it off in the evening. Or maybe a pantry - can be a great way to utilise space and the more room in the kitchen Best of luck Louise...See MoreMark
