Window dressing

Looking for ideas for blinds/ shutters/ curtains, which won't block the view when open. Any help much appreciated. Not very keen on flouncy curtains.

Hiya,

First of all, what a lovely space - bet you can't wait to enjoy it!

Pleated blinds are a practical choice, as they can be made to fit any size or shape window. Because they fit each pane of glass, you won't have lots of fabric gathering and blocking your view. They fit in the same way that they would at a conservatory roof, for example. I've attached a photo below:

Alternatively, shutters are a fantastic, contemporary choice. They can also be made in unusual shapes, and will create a lovely continental feel, and are a far-cry from the flouncy curtains you want to distance yourself from! Take a look at the beautiful bedroom below.

Hello - what a lovely view, and I'm not surprised you don't want to block or spoil it in any way. We second the suggestion of shutters - great for controlling light levels and also a nice structured solution which will frame and enhance the quirky shape of that window. They can also be perfectly tailored to unusual shapes! Good luck with your project.

We would say that your best bet is to go with wooden venetians, they come in a huge range of colours and give you that plantation shutter look, but without the bulk or price tag. They can be partly closed in the morning - giving you privacy but also giving you control over the light coming in. With larger slats you can angle the light towards the ceiling or towards the floor. Hi, take a look at these photos which show similar rooms to yours. It appears that your windows are close to the street so you may want to consider bottom up blinds to give you privacy without blocking the light (see below). These wood venetian blinds we installed show how you can control the light and your privacy too. They look similar to shutters, but take up less space, allow more light in and cost much less! I think some beautiful white voile for the day time, mounted on a very discreet ceiling mounted track, such as Silentgliss, which can be bent into the bay. I would then put a bay pole in front of this with whichever curtains go with your scheme, using a blackout lining. I would be careful not to have the curtains gathered too full though as you do not have a lot of space to the left of the window to pull them back. Although unconventional, to overcome this problem, you might want to consider having the curtains made to different widths, ie a shorter left curtain and a wider right curtain so that when they are closed they meet at the corner. On a flat window this would be very conspicuous, but your window is unusual.

Hi Claire, this looks like a good sized double bedroom. I would suggest a simple blackout blind fitted inside the recess over each window, the darker the colour the more light this will block. This will only be used at night and could add a splash of colour during the day if you were to have the blind pulled partially down. I would then suggest Roman Blinds as a second layer, fitted outside the recess. To make the windows appear a more similar size fit the right hand blind at the same height as the blind on the left, and also make the drop of both blinds the same. I would also suggest using the same fabric for each blind and have the cords or sidewinder on the left hand side for both. I hope this is helpful.

What a great space! There is a few ways to dress your window. If you're not a fan of curtains? Blinds can be a great option and there is plenty of variety to match your planned interior design.
