Rear extension/open plan kitchen diner, living area.

We are 75% into a rear extension, mostly built by my hubby. He's done a brilliant job! We have taken down walls to create open plan living space and now finding my kitchen/diner area is quite dark. We have a standard 3 bed mid terraced. Original living space at the front, dividing wall to extension/open plan area. We have installed a roof lantern light and bi fold doors. Any good ideas to create more light in the middle?
