Comments (3)Re the paint colour I wouldn't recommend white it will be very stark, you need something warmer with possibly a taupe or heather tone, this will work well with your scheme. Re the spot lights, you can go for energy efficient LED's, they come in white or warm white. The warm white give off a warmer light, similar to what we are used to from our traditional light bulbs. The warm whites vary hugely from brand to brand, so view them before buying them. I would recommend a dimmer switch so you can control the amount of light. Not all fittings are suitable for dimming. Comments (42)Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended....See MoreNeed help with painting a feature wall
Comments (2)Paint the Wall completely white first. When it is completely dry ( a few days ), buy some LOW tac decorators tape and mask off the edges of where you want the grey and then paint the grey. Grey at the top sounds good, it will define the ceiling / wall areas....See Moremac2007

Wow, Minnie it worked, thank you!!! Any interior design ideas from anyone, greatly appreciated. We're doing it all ourselves so it's taking time, we just took off dark green wallpaper & woodchip wallpaper off the ceiling.mac2007

8 years agoIt's usually the wall behind the bed but in your case you could go for either that wall or the fireplace wall - depends really on the wallpaper you choose. I've spotted a couple of wallpaper samples on your pics Harlequin radiance one's. I think this Sanderson Stairway to Heaven wallpaper would be beautiful with your bedside tables behind the bed but doesn't go with the aqua and orange you would like, but I'm not sure the Harlequin ones you've chosen do either. It's a beautiful room though, I'm very jealous of all those period features.

8 years agoYes I know what you mean about being able to see it, put it on the fireplace wall or everywhere (If it doesn't break the bank). That Sanderson one comes in a neutral colourway, so maybe you could get that to work with the Aqua and orange? Also GP&J Baker do some absolutely stunning wallpapers with an oriental flavour my favourite is Chinese Bridge in Aqua (below) but they also do a stunning one called Eastern Pine and a few others - Herons, Emperor's Garden all could be fab and worth a look. Love your living room by the way Minnie, am trying to find a something similar but in a pale blue and affordable for my living room.
