Comments (19)A microwave oven is the device I'd find difficult to live without. Rechargeable batteries are so useful. LED lightbulbs. I can remember the days when the choice was between a 40W, 60W or 100W filament light bulb. Now there is so much choice and variety including ultra low energy bulbs like the G9 LED lightbulb of 1.5W I use in a table lamp (gives out the equivalent of 10W). @whirligig - I'm another fan of using a squeege in the shower. It's so quick and easy to keep the shower clean....See Moredouble oven or single and microwave combi
Comments (9)I have a double oven at home and to be honest only use the top oven for toast. I never use it for baking. All my baking/roasts are done in the bottom oven. My freestanding microwave is situated in my island. I also have a property in Somerset and in that I have a single oven and an integrated microwave. I guess it depends how much you cook and whether you'd need a double oven because you need the extra cooking space. I have 3 racks in my bottom oven and 1 in the top so 4 racks altogether. My son has a single oven and integrated microwave above and would never have anything different. If you only plan to use the top oven for the likes of toast (when in fact you could just use a toaster anyway) perhaps the best option is a single oven with microwave over it....See MoreDouble oven/Two Single Ovens/Combi Microwave & Oven
Comments (52)#Mrs Lanks - having altered our original kitchen when we moved in 13 years ago we are now freshening up paintwork, replacing worktops and installing new appliances as the layout we chose then still works for us. We presently have a Rangemaster but they have changed the style so are considering two single ovens either side by side or on top of each other. If the latter, does the top oven need to be supported rather than just placed on top of the bottom one.....? Also, which brand did you end up buying as we are researching Neff and Bosch which both seem to have a problem cleaning the doors as you apparently need to take the glass door out....!?...See MoreKitchen floorplan critique
Comments (22)So if I understand correctly, you're suggesting the sink where I propose it (north wall), then the east wall with the tall units and the hob in the south wall? I think there's always an issue when cooking with your back to the window, in terms of lighting it's less than ideal. Also, I can't seem to find an elegant way to fit tall units all the way to the corner, as the joining with the worktop creates an access problem. If you're saying to stick to the original, don't get me wrong, it's very functional, and yes, I could get tall units on the south wall just as easily. It creates a bit of a corridor effect, as you go into the kitchen and have this 60cm deep "wall" to your right (the full height panel of the last unit), but that's the concession to make. I fully agree it's the layout that's there, and it's there for a reason: it's very workable and least offending for most people. I really am just trying to explore other options and do the proverbial head scratching exercise whilst there's a couple of months before I go at it with the demolition hammer. And coming to this community for a bit of feedback, thanks everyone so far :)...See MoreClare Ainsworth
