What color is the grout that was used? It appears to be a buff color?

Hello, Thank you all so so much for such lovely compliments and ideas. Yes I agree the lighting in the photo does look very white, it’s actually all warm light bulbs so I think it’s just because it’s a photograph. We have since removed the pendant lights in the kitchen area and replaced with aged brass spot lights with a warm white bulb. The panelled wall is natural calico from dulux - all we could get last lockdown where we live. It’s a lovely colour however when I tried it on the plastered wall in the kitchen area it looked awful. I am seriously considering strong white though after having a google it looks lovely! I love your ideas Brett - thank you! We’ve just painted the beams in an off white to lighten up the room a little. Thanks so much!

I may be a bit late to comment as you may be halfway through the garden! I think gravel is an easy and cheap way to create footpaths. A gravel garden can look amazing and gives a lovely country look. Levelling and compacting the area is good. I’ve always read that you should lay a weed suppressing membrane between the soil and gravel, but Charlie Dimmock said it doesn’t stop weeds and can look unsightly if it protrudes above the gravel over time. I agree with her and considering most weeds are airborne (think dandelions) they’ll still bed into the gravel. Quite easy to pull up though. You can always plant some flowers within or around it if you wish. Hope you get on okay Mel. .

Thank you all for your very helpful comments. I am now swayed towards the traditional oak. @Jo Jones - the oak interior looks lovely and warm with your white doors. Colourhappy - I was concerned about the grey trend but what made me question the oak was when reading Kelly Hoppen’s interiors book she cautions not to use golden wood such as oak with a taupe palette. Sonia - you’re right about the cold look, as the floor will be porcelain so no warmth there either. Daisy England - your comment made me laugh as I know what you mean about the other looking wishy washy. I am probably overthinking it but maybe need to get the right shade of oak. The dining table will be similar to pic below which is a greyed wood but rustic and old rather than new. I hope if I choose the traditional oak it would work with it.
