Help design my kitchen layout before my builder and husband kill me!
Comments (15)OK, I normally do gardens, but here's my take..... You kitchen is very similar to ours, which we've lived with for a few years now. Based on our experience, I'd move the sink to be opposite the cooker, with dishwasher adjacent and a ready-use plate rack over/adjacent (most people use dishwashers these days, so having the food preparation area by the window is more meaningful). You might also want to think about swapping the sink and cooker sides, since the route for dirty plates is from the dining table to the peninsula, to the dishwasher/sink. The peninsula is too narrow - this is where everything gets "dumped", so more surface area, creeping round the corner, will be much more useful: also, instead of a rounded end, a square end with cutlery drawers etc. would fit with the route of flow from kitchen to table. Agree with Ash that moving the door to the utility would work better - clear route of flow from dining area to the door without going into the more confined kitchen space. If you have an american style fridge-freezer along the bottom wall, say, you might want a second, under-unit fridge near the food prep area, for things you use all the time (thus preserving the traditional "work triangle"). Oh, and make sure you have a little spice cupboard right next to the cooker!...See MoreNeed help for my kitchen
Comments (7)If you want a more integrated country look, have your kitchen professionally spray painted in a pale grey or white after rehanging the wall units so that they are all level. Replace the light pelmet to something plainer. The worktop around the sink has gone quite dark from the constant presence of water. Consider having all the tops replaced with oak to coordinate with your floor. Wood knobs or pewter handles will complete the cabinetry. Remove the tiles and replace with patchwork tiles to give you more colour. Make sure you pick up the cabinet colour and the floor colour in the tiles. http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod44324/batik-patchwork-blue-tile.html Paint the remaining walls with a pale colour to keep the room light....See MoreNeed help for my kitchen
Comments (22)There are kitchen companies that can replace the doors, plinths and end panels etc thus completely changing the colour of your kitchen but using existing units. One I know if is Dream doors which my neighbour used to go from dark wood to cream and I cannot tell they are the old units. I like your kitchen, the layout seems good. I feel whats making it feel a bit dated is the amount of orangey pine or similar wood. Even changing the door knobs would help. If you wanted a greater change, a handleless slab kitchen in either a matching cream as the aga, or a grey might work? As an aside, changing the colour of the floor might help too....See Morehelp with my kitchen please
Comments (12)Hi. I think I'd go for a green with the wood and floor, perhaps a pistachio, Apple or cool sage. I like Carolins runner idea as you're a little limited as to what you can add in the space and be left with counter space. Is there space over the window for a vintage sign? Perhaps a small vase of flowers where the butter dish is. Can you put hooks over the pipes and add a couple of colourful colanders to detract from the boiler? Maybe some cake tins etc on top of the wall units? Do you have a ceiling light at all? What does the inside of the wall cupboard look like? You might be able to take off the doors of one (and store!) and add lots of vintage accessories...See Moretamp75
