Hi, Yes, as a designer I am increasingly asked for artificial turf in place of the real stuff for ease of maintenance. Its a good option in a small garden, I would advise you get some samples from various companies and have it professionally laid onto a sub base of Type 1 MOT and sand. Choose a grass with about 30mm length of blade, the shorter harder varieties look fake but the mid length ones can pass for real very easily. If it gets messy you can hose it down or even vacuum it on a dry day!

Hi there, You might try and change the colour of your bulbs if it's the artificial light causing the colour distortion. Ie they usually do a warm white or a cool white in bulbs so it's worth trying that first. If it's natural light causing it then accessory wise you could go with any colour. Red, hot pink & even a rich cobalt blue (mostly warm tones) would brighten it up a bit.

it depends a lot on the light levels as well, a shady darkish site would better suit artificial grass but if there is enough light for real grass then it would be real grass for me. this is not only because it looks much nicer, feels nicer but also because it helps to support the local wildlife ie attracting birds into the garden and insects and is also better for the environment. it is also untrue that artificial grass requires no maintenance, ideally it should be lightly brushed/blown once per month ( more in the autumn and spring months if surrounded by trees and also needs spraying with herbicide ever few months to keep the weeds from taking hold if maintenance is an issue for real grass, have a think about adding some wildflower turf to the area, looks stunning for the summer and needs cutting just once per year

We visit many new build properties where clients are keen to make the garden feel like home, when often we are looking at and discussing a patch of dirt. With this project, low maintenance was key so Artificial Lawn as a definite. To break up a mass of horizontal lines with the surrounding brickwork and fence panels, we re-designed the patio to include a sweeping curve which the client felt broke up the sight lines. The artificial lawn was laid had a 32mm pile with mixed shape blades and tri-colour to appear as natural as artificial lawn can. Our key tip when laying artificial lawn is to ensure the direction of the pile points towards the house, then brush back to help lift the pile (grass blades).

I’m an amateur gardener who’s tried lots of stuff without knowing what I’m doing in my time so take limited notice of me. But I know it’s the edges of new turf that are most prone to drying and failing so I’d make sure the edges are laid from full width strips and spread the cuts over the middle sections. You could start in the middle and work out to the sides but make any width cuts before you get to edge. Or be a sensible person and wait til someone who really knows gives you advice :)
