Help bringing lounge together
Comments (9)Hello James! I like your sitting room design and I see you have put a great thought and lot of time to achieve the look as it is now. Well done! Colours are set right and orange feature wall looks fab! Don't change colour scheme and you don't need any wallpaper, leave as it is. I will agree with comment above, on picture grey wall works well with curtains. And I see why room doesn't look 100% finished. You need to change you accessory arrangement. You don't have enough textures around a room. Let's start from walls: I see the reason why you place mirror in front of window but better move it on central part of grey wall, let it reflect orange feature wall and let it to create first expression of the room. Leave two framed art works on each side of the mirror, place mirror where you have a small frame. Mirror in this position will add volume to the room and will help to spread more colour on grey side. On the wall, where you have mirror right now, place a black metal vintage clock (For example) or metal wall art, better black and matt finishMetal is a new texture and will add attraction. Make sure to scale the clock size, not to be bigger than size of this mirror. Now console table in the corner: you are very good to consider colour splash but display doesn't look finished. Add set of small mirror frames on a wall, for example from Ikea (Black frame)I don't know dimensions of this area), in any case I will suggest to add 2 mirrors and place in diagonal or three (Up side down triangular) or four mirrors (square pattern). You are good scaling, so leave it to you. In addition, you have two displays: on top of console table and your coffee table. You will need to rearrange objects to make it more interesting and add depth in what you show. Here you will find more details how to set stunning display https://alenacdesign.wordpress.com/2015/11/17/make-stylish-accessory-display-on-a-shelf/ For more ideas, here you will find guidelines and inspiration how to add and spread texture around a room https://alenacdesign.wordpress.com/2016/02/23/textures-as-a-powerful-interior-element/ In general, add glass jars, faux flowers, metal urns. If you don't like flowers, go for green plants. You don't need a lot but one or two small pieces in a jar or glass bottle will add fine organic texture. All these little things will make place cozier and that's exactly what you need! Hope it will help! Good luck!...See MoreNeed advice on my living room colour wise I have a brown leather sofa
Comments (2)Hi andykate1, With darker rooms it is best to stick to a light colour palette that will make the room feel more expansive and open. Opting for a fresh neutral tone such as ‘Rocksalt’ will give the room an uplifted feel and make any dark room feel airy and balanced. ‘Rocksalt’ is a modern mid-tone that fits in between grey and white- not as stark as bright white and not as deep as grey. Why not create a beautiful feature of the main wall within the room? ‘Sun Dust 2’ is a lovely warm tone of golden yellow and is sure to bring in personality to the space and help the whole room feel ‘more together’. This can also be a colour to bring through in accessories and dressing the room. Try also using a co-ordinating colour with your accessories that will finish the scheme such as a rich navy. I'd suggest this gorgeous patterned rug from John Lewis, as it's sure to bring a cosy element to the scheme and adds dramatic interest: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-kalkan-rug-multi Adding textures to your sofa breaks up the dark colour and gives a homely feel, here are two I love!: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-pebble-cushion http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-tamaki-cushion Finally, it wouldn't feel like autumn without a place to rest your feet in front of the fire; introducing a pouffe or footstool could be a really lovely idea: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-diamond-shadow-pouffe Good luck decorating - It'll be so worth it on those cosy autumn nights to have a living room that feels like your sanctuary! Comments (5)OK, so here's few thoughts to get you started off... It is a bit stark looking at the moment, but if you like light and bright you don't have to dive to colour to bring life into your room, you just need to come over all Kelly Hoppen and include lots of different textures in fabrics, glass, wood, plants and maybe add a subtle accent colour. This is a big room too, and it needs some large scale items to set it off. Do you have one ceiling light fitting or two? If two they're probably fine. If one, you might consider getting something larger and more showy. How are your DIY skills and does your budget stretch to opening up the fireplace and reinstating a hearth? That would be ideal, as the chimney breast is the central feature of the room and something needs to happen there to create visual interest. ie. you could buy a second hand fire basket and dress it with logs, even if you have no intention of using a fire, but to do this you'd need to stretch to a fire surround to keep things in proportion. We can think up some alternatives if a fire/fake fire isn't possible ( You need more height to your decoration too, to suit the proportions of the room and I would suggest doing something in the recesses either side of the chimney, for example fitting matching shelving on both sides if that was useful, or, as this is a light and bright scheme, perhaps foxed or plain mirror cut to fit the walls above the dado rail. If you are happy to stick to curtains I'd suggest a new curtain rail that is mounted to run around the inside of the bay and has enough length either side of the bay that the whole of the curtain can sit perfectly outside the bay when they are pulled back. This enables you to reclaim the bay as usable area at night when the curtains are closed. If feeling heat from the radiator is a problem you might want to opt for roman blinds instead, which come to sill length. I would also suggest you get a much larger rug and maybe add a coffee table on top to create more of a sense of intimacy. And of course the obligatory cushions! I've attached a few photos for inspiration and I'm sure some mood boards will follow! :)...See Moregardenm1
