Tongue and groove bathroom

I'm hoping to have tongue and groove panelling on the walls of my new bathroom. However, I'd like a fairly modern freestanding bath. All the examples I can see are more traditional baths - with feet etc. would a modern bath look strange with this more traditional wood panelling behind it? Thanks

Hi ya,

I have to say I like the bath with feet with the tongue and groove, perhaps it is because panelling seems quite classic and elegant and so too are baths with feet. However here are some pics I found where they don't have feet. Though you will notice that each seem to have added quite a curvy bath. I really like the last one - in case you decide to go another direction with the panelling!

Just A couple of thoughts: If your shower tray was 1000x700 you would likely have enough space on the opposite side of the room to put the loo between the bath and shower. In turn this would leave more room for a bigger vanity and therefore more storage. Personally I would choose a metro tile with a dark grout and steel trims for the edges. Alternatively you could find a tile you like in more than one size. Use a smaller tile for decorative effect- perhaps you have a mosaic in a stripe up the wall?

Hi thimblehall As Sort Our Stuff mentioned, you can buy tongue and groove panels made of moisture resistant mdf from most hardware/building supplies stores. It works well in bathrooms and should be fine if painted in an eggshell paint. I have a tongue and groove bath panel and have had no issues with water damage. Hope this helps! Jennifer

I like to hide things away so I would take out the existing cabinet and buy a much taller one or two stacked one above the other to sit better in the space (and perhaps get a less wide cabinet so it doesn't have to be pushed right into the corner and the doors are a little smaller). Any gap at the bottom or side you should add a pile of towels that you buy just for display purposes. Bath panel- the tongue and groove route will work but I think there are loads of inexpensive ready made bath panels online. Flooring choice- Personally I like this type of white tile warmed up with wood to avoid it looking too clinical. I would be looking to find a wood style with a redness to it to tone and then use this for the floor, and one or two other things such as a blind or the cabinet. Paint for me a white paint will be too clinical and you need to find a deeper colour to frame the whiteness of the sanitary ware and tiles. I like grey but you have to choose the right one for your tiles.

Hi Carolina, sent the photos, unfortunately the walls look rather mauve, when they are in reality a greige colour elephants breath. I think its my phone camera as i have taken two more photos with the lights off and it still looks pinky mauve. As you can see the splash backs are factory green at the moment. We are thinking of a contrast with the wall colour. Thanks Sue
