Garden design dilemma help
Comments (26)The makeover commences in the morning. Rather than a complete revamp we have opted for a restoration of the status quo. The flags are to be taken up and relayed with the sunken square (formerly an eighties style brick built bbq) raised onto the same level as the surrounding patio. The wooden edging has had its day and is to be taken up, with new edging (as yet unknown) in its place. Some of the shrubs are also going - one or two of them seem to be existing much like Schrodinger's Cat - the foliage lustrous and waxy whilst the substructure of twigs dried out and brittle. It looks to my untrained eye to be dead but possibly this is due to my ignorance of all things horticultural....See MoreMy first attempt at planning my kitchen - 2D/3D included - be gentle!
Comments (17)You are all amazing! This is really helping our thinking process. We have considered banquette seating and certainly a bench, at times we might need to squash family around the table. Thinking extra storage underneath it. The peninsula isn't feeling so bad, Minnie the pictures are great. Like the shelving in the corner and can still have a run of tall cupboards. Manabout, wondering if the island is going to look too big in the center. Feel a bit scared a repeating my friend's mistake! The room that is going to be the kitchen has to have walls removed to make one room but i can plot this out in the first floor living room, newspaper on the floor, just to try it out. Worrying a little about the table position, how that would feel if it isn't centered on the doors. I am quite 'symmetrical' and 'matchy matchy' when I organize and plan. Finding the new eclectic styling (which I do love) a bit of a struggle! Consensus is definitely the 'kitchen' in that end of the room, rather than the bigger space currently planned for dining?...See MoreGarden Renovation Project: What would you do differently?
Comments (18)Hi Julian A slick contemporary design is dependent on fine detailing and the use of good quality materials, both hard and soft materials. It looks like you have a good sized garden so consider providing more zoning of areas depending on the intended use and time of day eg. BBQ and sun terrace for sitting out in the day time, a shaded area fo easy sitting or hammock, working area for shed, wheelbarrow etc. The working area of the garden is the equivalent of the utility room in the house so you don't necessarily want to see it, so consider part screening this area at the end of the garden. By not seeing all of the garden from the house it adds intrigue and encourages exploration, making the garden feel bigger. In think the planters along the fence line look out of place and you would be better to provide a generous planted border along this side to screen the boundary and add interest along the path. Good luck! Neil...See MoreAdvice required with our ‘Blank canvas’ garden
Comments (43)Hi Rachel, Sorry for the late reply again, full day in the garden..🤷♂️ gotta make the most of the weather! Thank you for this design, I really like your presentation and it does encourage me to ‘have a go’ with the art work, although I don’t think I’ll be posting any of my efforts on here! I wish I also shared your enthusiasm about growing green fingers, but I will try and I’m quite determine to give it a go. Thank you so much for all your ideas and designs over the last few days.. it is really quite humbling the help and enthusiasm from all on here, especially in these days of unprecedented and bizarre circumstances. It has also given me a boost and of course something to focus on whilst on lockdown (I’d never would have had the time/or the weather to have launched myself into this in normal times!) Hopefully I’ll be able to come back to you with some early stage pics of the garden and some design ideas that we’ve taken up. Many thanks again, stay safe and enjoy this glorious weather (😳 this might just be ‘Summer!’) Best regards Bob...See More- 9 years ago
