Claw foot bath help! Tiling?

I'm having a loft conversion in a few weeks with bed and bathroom. In the bathroom we are having a large shower and a claw foot bath. My dilemma is whether we need to tile the wall behind the claw foot bath!

I planned on having a stone or tile floor, tiling the inside of the shower obviously and a small splash back for sink. Everything else to be painted white while I decide on a colour.

The bath is going to be along one wall a little bit away and half the pictures I have seen the walls are just painted. Will this work and will it be watertight?

Any help gratefully received!
