My husband recently built some benches in the conservatory. I am not sure what colours to incorporate in the cushion covers

hi - with this new door configuration it opens up further possibilities - safety wise it's best to move your hob in from the edge of the island - so pan handles are less 'knock able ' designing to suit rooms is ok - but much better to design to suit the people using the room too ! to do this effectively a good designer will need to find out as much as possible about you and the members if your family - how you cook/ shop how often you entertain etc etc it takes time and when done well provides the best results for the room. this is what I do for a living - I don't sell product - purely design !- so instead of offering 'free design ' like studios do ( then making margin on the products you buy) - I charge a fee to design and then you shop around and get the best deal saving much more than the design fee in the process ! so you can see with this in mind - I can't design it for free for you on this thread - but happy to take it further in a professional capacity if you want to drop me an email ! ( nb we are concept designers who can take on whole houses too - so could look at the project in entirety too if needed - as what you do with each room has a knock on effect on the next ! ) kind regards Karen OnePlan

Hi Jo, I understand your problem, I had a similar issue in the past and it was the cost of hiring professionals that was the problem and I had to get really creative to solve the issues! Listed building consent is free. You could apply for this yourself, if you actually needed it (planningportal). You could call your local council and speak with the officer about what you want to do and get their advice yourself without having to hire anyone. If this gorgeous place was my home, I would add some beautiful glass / french doors to the conservatory and keep them closed most of the time. Then in the conservatory dining room I would add some gorgeous conservatory blinds (including roof blinds) and or curtains and some great radiators (I really love the ACOVA ones, they blend traditional and modern really well and are really efficient) or use the plug in type to heat the space an hour before dinner. I would probably get insulating blinds and have fun with a colour scheme for all of the soft furnishings such as rugs and anything that will help keep the place feeling warm. I am not sure how large or young your family is, but if you were considering a rejig of the kitchen, adding a small bar area would suffice for breakfast and mean you only had to heat the conservatory on weekend lunches and at dinner times. Wumi Hello Wumi, good to get your input as you are a Houzz celebrity! I’ve read lots of your posts on here and liked your ideas. Thank you for the floorplan. I like the kitchen in the lounge space. I’ve seen the front room as a snug and it is small considering it would be the only lounge space. I’m going to see if I can get a ballpark cost to build a proper room in place of the cons to use as a lounge. I think that will be the decider as to whether all the living space can be moved to the back and the study could go to the front. Do you think there would be room for a table in your kitchen plan?
