Hello Emmeline, Well apart from BB above.. Lovely photo.. I am not actually that keen on the idea at all, I think things have to really mean something to you or be really really interesting, like people you met or knew or family members.. ... In that case I could have a fair few! I'm a bit of a renaissance art fan too... Do love an old old canvas portrait - although I have not acquired any... What I do have..... is a signed portrait of Peter Falk...I am a huge huge huge fan of Columbo!!! Love him! He and the episodes.. were such genius and I think a big part, reason why I love interiors... Architecture in LA is magnificent!! : ))

I like the look of the hanging pendant lights but do think it will be a passing trend. Not least because of the practicality issue of non-directional light that you've already mentioned. I used wall lights in the spare bedroom to save surface space on the small bedside tables. They're only cheap £16 ones from IKEA but I think they look nice all the same and they swivel so you can use them directionally. We needed plug in ones which limited our options but I covered the white wire in grey electrical tape to help it blend with the wall colour.
