Fitted wardrobes for large vaulted ceiling bedroom
Hi, we had a company out to design fitted warbdrobes for our new bedroom. I have attached their design but am not sure it works - would it be better for the wardrobes to be placed centrally on the wall? Note that there is a ceiling slope to the right hand side which isn't shown on the design. Also, the central wardrobes are set forward by a few centimetres. Thanks for any tips/feedback

Comments (1)Have you tried space slide or Jali as they list prices but I wouldn't say particularly cheap. It may be cheaper to get the plasterer back and go freestanding? You could pick up say a french armoire from ebay for a great price and you know it's good quality. Do you just need doors or sides too? The other option, if doors, is maybe to buy some french louvre doors, shutters or a room divider from ebay and have the carpenter make something up. I want to do similar for window shutters. Comments (4)Hi Katherine, It sounds like a great space that can offer a real impact and still be a very cosy and relaxing space. It can be daunting to have such a large space to deal with at first, especially when there are features you don't want to touch. There are lots of different options for the space. I like the idea of opening up the fireplace as it would make a great feature for the room and a place to add a possible seating area for reading but I do agree that if down stairs is electric it is probably closed off. It is a bit of work and a messy job to get it changed. You shouldn't need to worry about planning but will obviously need to abide by building regulations. I think a lot of people place only a large bed and a select few piece of furniture in there types of rooms to draw attention and emphasis the gorgeous period features but there of course things we can do to add additional wardrobes in unobtrusive ways. I would agree to not adding a en-suit as it will unbalance the space. However, it is very hard to tell without any pictures? Would you be able to upload any? Comments (6)As mentioned above a good carpenter/handyman could fit a sliding door system for a reasonable price, but may not be able to maximise the space as custom joinery would. https://www.houzz.co.uk/projects/2612454/sliding-door-wardrobe-in-gospel-oak This is a project I worked on a few years ok in Gospel Oak so excuse the low quality photos. The room was a strange 5 sided shape with high ceilings and around 6x6m. We managed to fill 3 sides with wardrobes and soft close sliding doors, double height hanging rails with pull down and still had room for drawer boxes in each side. The customers had limited options with the shape and size of the room so had to go for the bespoke option. Personally I think a bit of real wood would look great against the blue and add a natural element (need to be a bit careful against the pink though!). I saw this pair of beauties in a charity shop, probably not quite right but I think it would be worth following your instincts and holding out for what you wanted rather than going for second best. Everyone is in such a hurry to have everything finished and perfect immediately but a house, style and furniture evolve over time, so if you can be patient and deal with clothes elsewhere for a bit you may get your dream cupboards! 8 years agoI like the idea of having part of the design set forward to add interest. But I think the fact that the wardrobes are off centre in the wall is throwing out the balance of the room. This will be emphasised with the sloping ceiling. The chairs and lamp seem like an afterthought to fill the space rather than having a purpose.
Could you ask them to redesign the wardrobes to incorporate a dressing table, so that the design fills the whole wall? This is the wardrobe I designed for our last home. We had lower ceilings than you and two sloping ceilings, but something similar might work?

I have searched for some images for your inspiration. As you on the the first two images, there is gap as well between the wardrobe and ceiling. If you believe visually it works for you, than go ahead. Alternatively, you could place some baskets as well on the top for extra storage, personally I would consider it if that helps.
On the last two images, you can notice that the ceiling is high and the wardrobe is reaching the ceiling. I have the same in my bedroom and love all the space I have even if I need a chair to reach the top cabinets (I store there stuff I hardly ever use), so all the space is used up for storage.
I say don't move sown your built in wardrobe to the middle. On the right I love that sitting corner, where you also have light entering your room. Looks pretty nice, stick to your plan!
