Colour Scheme Dilemma - What goes with shiny brass and orange wood?!

Hi everyone... We are looking to invest in some nice living room furniture, including curtains and rugs, lighting etc.. The trouble is we only rent so have to work with the gaudy brass fittings everywhere (fireplace, lighting, window hardware etc) and orangey wood (floor, window frames).

We really dislike red, terracotta and brown. The room is fairly dark and we have a 3 year old so the furniture needs to be appropriate in terms of colour and practicality. We are feeling a bit stuck so would welcome any advice on colour palette please... Thanks a lot :-)
