What will go with black and white mural

Hi

My son is putting a very large black and white mural in his room. An advisor on Houzz recommended grey on the walls, I was just wondering if you could recommend another colour apart from grey? The mural will take over one complete wall, I am afraid of room looking too dull.

I would temper it with a soothing grey/olive otherwise it might be too much.

Hello Anna in a small space I would stick to white walls and bring the colour out in your accessories. I would choose a white fridge and applicances these are easier to keep clean than stainless steel. You could add your favourite bright colour for the coffee pots. I have a small black and white kitchen and have highlights of red (that's my favourite colour). You could add any bright with black and white. Bright green, yellow, turquoise blue or orange. Depending on the type of blind you choose you could add a striped black and white blind or geometric. Keep it simple but stylish.

I think I'd take a second look at the grey walls. Possibly taupe would warm up your scheme and might compliment the wood you have selected. You can then add pretty much any colour you fancy in accessories with cushions etc. Depending on the size of the windows , the black curtains might need to be replaced.

It is hard to comment on your specific room without knowing the size and how much natural light gets into the room. However, most black and white murals I have seen have all the remaining walls white. This can look a little bland and stark though, so you could consider something bolder in terms of block colours in your son's favourites. Primary colours would also work well.
