Ideas for using an old slate hearth

Hi guys, I'm in the middle of a building project. It includes a hallway and kitchen extension to my 100 year old cottage.

In removing one chimney we have been left with a lovely solid slate hearth. It's about 2 inches thick 1 metre long (maybe a little longer) and 50 cm wide. I'd like to reuse it in the house but I'm stuck for ideas.

It's too heavy to make into a shelf and although it might make a good kitchen worktop it would show up the laminate worktop we have already chosen for what it really is (laminate). So I don't know how to use the skate. We will have a new hallway, downstairs loo and kitchen.

Any ideas?
