Lounge area ideas

Would like to get a few ideas on how to decorate this area. It's to be used as a lounge. I'm thinking bold, not afraid to add a splash of colour and a big rug! Please ignore the horrible tables etc!

Looks like you've got a lot of space to work with! Do you know what style you're looking to go for? I'd go for lighter, brighter hues myself - yellows, whites, and throw in some grey (not bright but would look good)! Apart from the colour, I'd definitely think about a floor lamp or two to help disperse the light across the room.

I want super contemporary.

Undecided on colours, hoping for some nice examples.

The room is more rectangular.

houssaon I sat with a piece of it on my floor this morning and I screamed to myself 'what am I doing , Ive got rid of an axminster for this ! ' so I went to the shop and have found a neutral brown carpet 80% wool which suits a large rug I have and should bring out the colours in my new suite , I am glad I took the rug with me because the small chair is a near match to the suite, and the rug/ chair look nice together . I was tired and stressed late last night having taken up my old carpet last night in 1 piece in case I ever thought about putting it back ! everything now happens Thursdaywhen the carpet is fit and the dining suite and lounge suite is installed Ill upload. youve asked about my style ? Im going for the stressed look ! no I want a classy look but also minimalistic due to it not being a big through lounge thanks for your comments to date ps anyone want an axminster !

Hi Kerri, congratulations on your new home ! We definitely think you should keep the floating shelves as they make a great wall feature, and as you suggested, painted in a shade of grey will look very stylish. We’ve seen a rise in people move away from various shades of creams and beiges that have dominated the past decade and welcome greys into their homes – with it being the most-in demand colour for 2017. Apologies for the radio silence. My wifi has been down. Thank you Carolina for your input. You are all so giving of your time. I think I've finally settled on elements of all of the ideas, but would really appreciate some final input, if you can visualise what I am trying to get across. The "down time" has given me some space to reflect and also to look at furniture. I dragged my other half to DFS and Sofology this weekend, much to his dismay! :) I'm looking at moving the door, as suggested by MATH to the other side of the support wall. That would give a bigger expanse for the TV to sit on a nice big unit, more central along that wall. With a big Loch Leven sofa from DFS in charcoal leather along the opposite wall. I'm thinking of the small Joules Windsor (DFS) in yellow velvet for in front of the bay. This would give us ample seating around the telly. I'll still have enough room for 2 big comfy fireside chairs in charcoal velvet, a square charcoal leather pouffe and a coffee table. I have dark stripped floorboards and so will probably have white walls, big monochrome prints on the walls and lots of scatter cushions to bring colours together. I know you have all been so generous with your time and ideas so far. What do you think of this plan?

Hello. I think there are a fair few options here so you are probably best looking for a layout package with a concept planner who can give you a few options for space - giving you some options to consider and to see what is possible. When I create these, I use your plans to create 2D and then 3D plans so you can get a real feel for space - it's often much easier to understand the space in 3D. For me personally, I would start by moving the bedroom door into the hallway, so the bedrooms entrances are opposite each other. I would add the door to the open-plan space ( as above) opposite the main front door to maximise those spaces and keep the bedroom area contained. You could then increase the bathroom slightly to add a shower in and create an open plan area with the rest. Or you could move the bathroom entirely to then keep the larger open plan area looking on to the patio. As concept planners, I usually look at a lot of detail to create your plans - for example how big does your kitchen need to be? what is missing from the bathroom now? Where does the plumbing run and what walls can be removed? How do you use the space? We look at all this and more to enable us to design three layouts for your space that work for you with your budget and with the property. Best of luck.

Hi. As the room is open plan I'd work with the green. Grey looks fantastic with grey and would have this on the walls ( which way does the room face and how much light does it get though?) I'd bring more green into the lounge, in the same or a different shade and then chose an accent colour. Depending on how bold you want to go it could be shades of purple, red, blue even yellow. You seem to love stripes so would go for a striped rug widthways across the room to make it feel wider. Is the dresser staying as it seems an ideal spot for a dining table unless you have a dining room? I'd paint the doors too so they blend into the walls
