Advice needed Rug size & design

Hi all, for weeks I have been looking for a faded vintage traditional style rug for the living room (that I can afford).
After hours of looking at rugs Im starting to doubt if it will suit the room!
Rug in the room at the moment is 130 x 190 cms. I think it is a bit too small so looking to purchase 160 x 230.
So my immediate questions are do you think any of these rugs will suit and is 160 x 230 going to be the better size?
My sofa is slate grey, the cushions are turquoice/red/fushia & yellow/red. The curtains behind are fushia.

1. called rust rug
2. turquoise and red (might clash?)
3. green and beige made to look faded.

1. Fav but almost £400 (maybe too light for the most used room in the house?)
2. Large pattern

Comments (18)Based on the suggestions already mentioned. You might want to consider: Moving the furniture around to get a feel for the layout. Before purchasing the new sofa, cushions, tv wall bracket. Maybe change the pin spot bulbs to a colder tone-if they are LED. This will provide a whiter light. If the entrance door is adjacent to the kitchen, is it worth considering a half glazed door to let in natural light? Assuming their is a hallway leading to the kitchen end of the room. If the TV is wall mounted you will still need the table under it, to house the sky box etc. so the visible viewing angle will reduce if you do not have a swivel wall bracket (mentioned earlier). The extractor hood-is it vented through the wall? If so is their an option to install a small window next to it to let in some daylight? If the room faces North, the hood faces East (I think). Comments (11)Hello Karen, Yes a wet room style, there is no need for a glass partition at all (although some people do like to add one anyway) and in a large space can be nice. In your case there's no need and therefore no need to have a specific shaped tray.. The room is fully tanked and therefore the shower spray will go directly towards the floor. As you can have a wall or ceiling mounted shower rose angled where you want and the floor will have drainage usually a gradient but there are several options here. The "tray" often used will be hidden under the tiling or finish of the flooring and so specific shape negated.. For a seamless look I like floor and walls to match.. Of course how you want to deal with that is of course your preference.. It does though give you far more scope with the room, because you do not need to angle things to make them fit.. I always suggest wet rooms specifically for the reasons I mentioned and have been using this term for a long time which for me works to describe what I'm suggesting. Thank you for all of the advice. I have moved the furniture around. The side table can't go in the middle because we have a projector that we use a lot that sits on the floor in front of our feet at the sofa. I've tried this but the table blocks the projection.
Leaving the side table at the radiator but with the sofa pulled forward means the room looks disjointed (see pic) as the table and radiator don't match up.
So I'm left thinking maybe go for a smaller size and have none of the feet touching. Not much different from the size of the rug we have now. What are your thoughts?

8 years agoThank you everyone, I think I'm going to order the green&Brown traditional one no3 in the larger size.
I realised that the only things that arent going to change are the plants!
So green it is. it will go with the brown chair, a leather sofa if we ever save enough for one! It will tie in with the new painting I'm having done too!
