Decorator refused to wallpaper our room - please help
Comments (92)I love Josette wallpaper. I used it on my chimney breast in my old bedroom. Loved it so much, another shade went up under the dado up the stairs and in the hall in my house too. We then moved and we have it now in our new bedroom in yet another shade! I put the paper up in my old bedroom. It’s tricky but not the worst paper I have ever hung....See MoreArts & Crafts Bedroom Wallpaper Dilemma
Comments (85)It looks great, I'm glad you and your daughter are so pleased and she has lots of room for friends over, playing etc. It can also be easily and cheaply adapted as she grows if she wants. My only criticism (if you can call it that) is that if not already your daughter may soon also want the desk to double up as a dressing table and therefore I think a mirror was a good idea but the memo board (which looks great) can always be moved as and when needed. (I thought i'd posted a comment on that previously but obviously not!). I might also add a desk light there for working during winter months. So which room next?!...See MoreHelp-not getting any further
Comments (30)Hi Minnie we had the Orangery built really so we could have a large dining table as there are 4 of us and we regularly have my friends and their 2 kids over, sometimes others too so really need the extra room. On the floor plan I posted it shows another room downstairs as the dining room but we use at as a play/family room and that has 2 sofas in. I think really we will use the back of the kitchen as extra storage somehow. Husband would like a huge American style fridge but I would prefer a cupboard/sideboard in a contrasting colour to the kitchen (like the pics of the Islands I posted) so we'll see who wins that battle! I would like a tall cupboard somewhere in the kitchen as I don't have anywhere downstairs for sweeping brush, steamer etc) I've ordered some material swatches from John Lewis but I was thinking about just getting blinds in the windows rather than the doors, what do you think? The other option for the doors are 'easy fit' blinds and they clip into the frame, but struggling to find any pics of what they look like pulled up. I want to keep as much light as possible as the room is North ish facing. extra back...See MoreTiny home revamp costs and ideas
Comments (24)Tony, if you are on a budget then I would not rule out IKEA for kitchens. You can buy the kitchen and find someone to fit it and if you wanted to save a little labour cost you could put the carcasses together yourself. The quality of the IKEA Kitchens is surprisingly good and although Howden's quality is also good I find that there costs are sometimes unreasonable and the range option is lacking. You could use the saving to buy better appliances such as NEFF or Bosch. With regards to Victoria Plumb you can buy directly from them and again I was surprised at the quality of their product compared with the price. For a house I refurbished in the Wirral I used them for both the vanity units with wash hand basins, wall cabinets and also for a "wall mounted" toilet unit with toilet. The caveat is that sometimes Victoria Plumb's customer service leaves a lot to be desired if something is missing from your delivery. With regards to skirting have a look at Ebay and find yourself one that has alrady been primed as you then just need a top coat of paint. Be brave with your decorating and take your time.... it is those who rush it that generally mess it up and it is not really that complicated.. and don't forget to buy dust sheets! :-) Also where there are any joints between plastered walls and architraves/window cills, wood details, etc., use a white acrylic mastic. This is easy to apply and give a nice clean finish but again take your time and follow the instructions. I generally have this done after the decorators have finished on all of my projects and it makes a huge difference....See MoreAnastasia Aston
