Hi Everyone, I need to change our conservatory doors. Should I change it to A. wooden framed full glass panel doors B. French style with 3 glazing bars across and one down (8 sections) C. french style with 3 glazing bars ( 4 sections) D. French style with One glazing bar near the top. What are you thoughts about sliding doors so that the 2 middle sections open side to side or concertina aluminium to be able to open up fully? The window to the side will be changed to sash 10 over 10 to match the rest of the Georgian period. Help! Many thanks.

I'd go for sliding doors on a purely aesthetic basis, though bifold doors look incredible too!

I think that since your house has multi paned windows the current multi-paned doors sit well with it.
Do you particularly want a different look?

Hi Nicola, I quite like the idea of the double doors but you are right they will kind of "get in the way". The thing with double doors is, I'd only want to put them in if I was going to make a real feature of them, which means its ok that they are in the way because they are the star of my show and Im happy to work around them (if that makes sense?) To be honest until you have a furniture layout that works in that room you won't be fully convinced anyway, so think about the furniture you have or want to have and start thinking about how you want to use those rooms. I like your architectural layout and I could definitely work around those doors, but your lifestyle may be very different to mine, so you'll need to think about any children running from the outside into the house, any frail people who hold onto doors when walking through them etc. If you are trying to save money, one door will be best (the one on the left) as the door under the beam will need a lintel. This is probably only a couple of hundred with installation but everything adds up, plus the cost of the doors as you wouldn't want to put too cheap ones in there and if you need to put fire doors in again the costs will start to add. If none of those are issues, but you just don't like the idea of some funny doors flapping around, perhaps consider some sliding doors. You could hide them in a pocket if you are doing the work anyway and they can look very elegant if done nicely. When it comes to flooring again, I woudl think about a rough layout and how you use the space. Will the new extension have the main dining table in there or will that just be a breakfast table? Will everyone be coming home through the utility / boot room or will they be crossing into the kitchen from the entry hall? The paths we make will effect the type of flooring as it will need to be practical and safe and then put together wholly with your proposed interior. Oops, sorry for the essay! I suppose I just wanted to say this should be fun, get imaginative and start thinking how you will use these beautiful new spaces you are creating for your family as your life in this home will drive many of the decisions (unless its for sale, then in that case Id go down a different path altogether?). We can’t decide! Will have a big roof lantern like in photo 2 and a traditional/transitional kitchen. Door height will be 2.7m and some have swayed us against bifolds at that height??

Colour of front door? Help please!

I’ve answered on your other post ref door colour, so have a look if you wish. As to the brick colour, my mum’s neighbour painted over some beautiful red bricks (sacrilege!) in a terracotta paint then new owners moved in and painted it pale cream and it looks much better now. They also built a wall topped with black railings and it’s very smart now.

Hi Tom, would you have plain glass or multi paned doors on the sliding glass doors?

Hi Jonathan, which multi pane configuration do you think would suit best? Do you think it might look too busy? I have louvered blinds in the inside of the glass roof. The conservatory is an extension of the grade II listed georgian house. Do you think wooden frame or a metal framed door ( crittal style).

Hi Sarah!

Have you considered Aluminium Bi-folding Doors? We think they'd look great on your conservatory and would join your garden area to the indoors when opened.
