Advice on electric fireplace

We currently have a black modern electric fireplace which is fixed to the wall. Right next to it we have a black tv which is also fixed to the wall and underneath it is a dark tv unit.

We would like to change the fireplace to a nicer one. Which would you recommend? Our home is a contemporary style and at the moment it feels like we have 2 tv screens because they are both black. I'd be grateful for your ideas and suggestions please.

I would recommend a bio ethanol fireplace for a real-fire authentic look and options of many different styles. This usefularticle compares the benefits of electric fries to bio ethanol.
If you want a contemporary style non-black fireplace, perhaps a fireplace in steel would work. A fireplace like this will modernise a living space with the silver colour adding brightness to your room.
If having two flat rectangular shapes on the wall concerns you, maybe contrast the flat screen TV with a contemporary, circular fireplace.

Long story but in a nutshell we are just starting an extension but have an 11,000 volt electrical cable running very close, if not under where it is going to be built. Has anyone had experience of this? Have quite a few questions! Currently trying to liaise with UK power network about this but they are hard to contact. If you have it in the recess, wouldn't that make your sliding doors look smaller during the day due the the pelmet size or is the pelmet quite small? I think it would look nicer on the wall outside of the recess. I have sliding doors but no blinds yet but if I did, I would put mine outside of the recess.

Agree with Jonathan, I like a tv at eye level if possible, if you have a very wide room it’s not so bad but if you have to tilt you head back in any way to watch tv thats not a good thing in my book, nice look to the above layout in the pic I think.

Hi, You would use decorators caulk. Is's cheap and readily available from any DIY store. Polyfilla would work too but caulk is flexible and won't crack polyfilla will, especially as the fireplace surround will expand and contract at different rates to the wall.
