l shaped front room design help needed!
Comments (2)Hi there, I'd add an L shaped sofa on the right hand wall of the lounge area. This will allow for either a wall mounted TV or a TV unit on the wall adjacent to the stairs. Putting furniture in the opening on the right will close this room off and make it seem smaller. You want to use the whole 18ft to make sure that it feels like a large open room. I'd then put a sideboard with a mirror above it and possibly some lamps on the right hand wall. You can use the sideboard to store your little one's toys. Also consider an ottoman with storage too in front of the sofa. I always try to squirrel as much storage as I can without taking up additional valuable space. Your feature wall could then be on the right hand wall with some artwork on it. Think about practical materials. A soft leather sofa works well because it's very forgiving with sticky hands. You want the space to look great, but it has to work for your young family. Hope that helps....See MorePlease I need your help! My front room looks dull, and the wall paper
Comments (4)Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light...See MoreFront elevation - Please help us choose which design to go for
Comments (21)Always intrigued by how different people have such strong and mixed views on choices like this! No 2 is my personal preference - looks more modern and "integral". I find the other 2 designs look like after-thought bolt-ons and make it look like an older house that's trying to be something it is not. The middle design doesn't feel that way to me. But it's only a personal view.... ;-) Caldicot Kichens...See MoreDesign ideas to modernise a front room.
Comments (9)Yes I really didn't like the tv in the bay window, since we've got a bay window I'd like to make use of it, I think it's a lovely feature to have in the house. The hallway effect idea is perfect as well, I did think about a sofa but thought it would look a bit too "there" however with the console table, I think the focus would be off of the sofa plonked there! Thank you! We'd love to be able to do all the rooms in one hit but we're going to have to space them out, all of our money went on our deposit (it's expensive being a first time buyer) we also have no furniture, but if we can plan out what we want for the overall home that should help a little. It's certainly exciting!...See Moreannelf
