Painting kitchen cupboards.

I've moved into a new house that needs an awful lot of work doing to it. The kitchen isn't to bad the walls are grey which I love and the tiles are fine. I was just going to paint the kitchen cupboards as they are looking a little tatty. Any recommendations for colours. The kitchen is west facing with a conservatory on the back. There is a north facing window.

If the units are wood make sure you prime with a good product-I recommend Zinsser Bin.Farrow and Ball Ammonite and Purbeck Stone always look good in a grey themed kitchen

I would choose colours similar to the tiles as I don't think you need to add any more to the space. Our November Gorse could look really nice:

Or if you wanted another shade of grey to pick up the walls perhaps Sodden Clover: http://www.paintbyconran.com/en-GB/all-colours/m/product/view/44/preserve-elements, or I actually think Pale Veronica: http://www.paintbyconran.com/en-GB/all-colours/m/product/view/8/preserve-elements (which is a pale blue) could look lovely too!

Hi there. Completely agree with everyone, you should paint the cupboards. I really like the colours in this picture as I think that the slightly 'greyer' off white cupboards would tie in well with your beautiful grey tiles. You wouldn't necessarily have to go so light on your worktop as in this picture. The laminate you showed in your third picture is really nice, where is it from? Currently doing my kitchen and trying to find a laminate that I like!

Hi. Personally I like the look, maybe not for everyone but it can give a feeling of space. I'm in the middle of painting literally everything in mine the same colour and now I've found the first pic it will actually look quite similar in style and colour! What style and colour of kitchen are you having? Are you having a splashback? if so what colour etc as it can break up the space ( I have tiles which will be coming off although I don't mind the ones in the 2nd pic). My kitchen is very old hence makeover no.2 on a very small budget but there are so many paint colours other than white you could choose if you weren't sure about painting everything the same

Hi Tricia. I agree with the other comments that painting kitchen cabinets is a lot of work and I don’t think you would be better pleased with the end result. Some cabinets can take painting better than others. For a different idea you could extend the wall cabinets almost up to the ceiling by either finding extra wall units or if you’re handy with diy creating them yourself. Then replace doors with some mdf panels which you can then prime/paint yourself (see pics below for the kinda thing I was thinking of). Mdf doesn’t cost all that much but if you’re not confident with cutting or drilling hinge holes then a local joiner could do this for you. Wouldn’t normally recommend painting tiles but if it’s just short term then it’s maybe worth a try. I wouldnt use any wood panels behind a gas hob tho, might be a fire risk.
