We'll be putting in a new white gloss handleless kitchen end of Nov but we're stuck as to what type of flooring to go for. Worktop surfaces including breakfast bar top will be in Swedish light oak, with either white or very pale turquoise glass splashback. Breakfast bar separates the kitchen from dining area that's open-plan to living room, all flooring in living spaces in beautiful American cherry hardwood. Would love to continue the cherrywood flooring into kitchen but have not managed to find a close match in laminate or vinyl planks, plus would it look too dark?Husband and I have differing tastes - he wants a mid grey to dark slate vinyl floor, whilst I would prefer a similar shade to the rest of house or a lighter shade in laminate, either in stone or wood effect, for a clean look. Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received! Thanks.

Why can't you bring the cherry wood floors into the kitchen?

Can't bring cherrywood floor into kitchen as they're a pain to maintain. Beautiful flooring but not practical for kitchen area. Found ARMSTRONG vinyl plank that I like but can't seem to find a supplier in the Uk despite googling.

If you have a magnet, hold it to the Le Creuset pots. If it sticks to the pot, you can use it on an induction hob. I’ve recently switched from gas to induction. Induction is much quicker and you can let the burner switch off automatically after a set time. And it’s easy to clean. So far the advantages I’ve found. Disadvantages: can’t see the flame, so have to work out what the settings do. I’m taking a long time to get used to that, but then again, I’ve only ever cooked on gas before. Sometimes the pans make an annoying high pitched tone. I had to buy new pans, but my big iron stew pot (not Le Creuset) should work on it. Haven’t used it yet, but it is magnetic. For my other pans I went to IKEA and got a great set with heavy glass lids from there. Very happy with them. Had to say goodbye to one of my big iron frying pans, because the bottom was slightly warped and then it doesn’t work well either. All in all I’m happy with the induction hob. I love the speed. But I think I still prefer gas. Anyway... we have a downdraft in an island, so gas wasn’t an option. But you could do both perhaps? Two gas burners, two induction ones for example?

Hi! All the pieces of work you mention are best doing as one job as a kitchen fit-out project. You'll be best getting it all designed in one go and then getting a contractor to carry out all works again in one go. It will likely get done faster that way (depending on you getting a good contractor capable of project management - ask referees if they finished by the date in the contract to check this). Your kitchen will be out of action for a few weeks / a couple of months tops. But then it will be done and you can move onto other spaces. Bear in mind that removing the partition wall may be structural so if you are aiming to keep costs down then you may decide that the money spent on the structural change isn't worth it. It's hard to say what kind of layout you will be able to achieve without floor plans. If you find that room cold and if the floor feels cold in particular then you will get a better result from removing the tiles and insulating under the floor, if it's a suspended timber floor. Then use something like sealed dense cork tiles that have an insulating quality or an insulating underlay for a timber / rubber / marmoleum finish - these are more eco options than a plastic laminate or a vinyl. I have maple hardwood flooring in my kitchen, but it's not a problem for maintenance and cleaning. Actually quite the opposite. Maybe Armstrong has a help line you can call.

Will continue to check re ARMSTRONG. Would love hardwood in kitchen, but may have a problem convincing the other half since I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to maintaining the American cherry flooring and it drives him crazy (no shoes allowed in house etc). LOL! Hence the compromise with cushion vinyl planks! Thanks for your feedback.
