Outside garden corridor
Comments (10)It sounds like a great idea, have you had any contact with your Planning Authority? What sort of thing are you thinking of? The least space would be taken up if you can go along the one side of the garden with a back wall and a mono pitch roof sloping towards the garden, it would be nice if you could keep the side facing the garden all glass with opening sections to give access to the garden. A bit like a very long, thin conservatory, If it wasn't too intrusive and could be a bit wider/deeper, you could make it look like an old fashioned hot-house/orangerie....See MoreUsing corridor space for bigger kitchen good or bad idea?
Comments (17)I agree completely with OnePlan. There are lots of ways this house could be altered to suit you and your family and I presented just one option. A design professional would help you think about what you need out of the house and what parts bother you most and need addressing. They would also consider sunlight, regulations improving the flow, sight lines, aesthetics and correct sizes. Getting the design right is so important and most people don’t. They either make changes organically (make a small change then see what they want to do next) which never works, or make plans based on their budget concerns but don’t really know what things cost (By this I mean that they plan lots of little changes thinking that they are managing the budget or preferring to pay for lots of little jobs rather than one big one). In my opinion the best route is to get a great home is to get together a plan and to stick to it even if you can’t do everything all at once....See MoreHow to decorate narrow corridor to mitigate dirt/damage on the walls?
Comments (2)Wall panelling is a great idea with some bathroom paint for extra water resistance or there are some lovely PVC wall cladding options like the one below which are wipeable and very hardwearing....See More1930s semi-detached, lounge that has become a corridor?
Comments (4)We had a similar problem, but didn't realise it. The builder took one look and said, "This living room is just a corridor !" No seating arrangment worked well. In the end, we moved the boiler from its cupboard (which took off a whole corner of the room !) and put it in the utility room elsewhere; used that area as the new doorway, so it was then just a few steps to the double doors leading to the dining room. That meant we could have an uninterrupted area to sit and entertain in near the window - a bit like Wumi's suggestion above. It really does matter where the doorways are ! At present, your problem is compounded by the fact that you HAVE to walk right through the middle of the living room to get to the kitched from the front door....See Moreq7777
