Help with colour for sitting room floor

Hooray - later this week we are finally getting our sitting
room floor sanded/sealed and..........I need advice about the finish!

The room is a front of the house sitting-room in a 1920's
suburban semi. Measures roughly 4m x 5m and
has a big square bay window facing east.

I was originally going to have the floor varnished BUT a big
problem arose in that some boards needed replacing around the fireplace and
where a wall had been previously removed and the boards chipboard inserted
(eeks). We wound up having to have new
boards put in rather than reclaimed (don't ask why please!).

So, the problem now is that there is a difference between
old and new; we are going to have to go the staining route and am not sure what
kind of colour to go for. I am aware
that there is likely to be a difference in the way that the boards take the
stain and obviously want to minimise this.

The rest of the room:

I have ordered shutters (slightly off white) which won't be
installed until December. The door is
partially glazed and is painted white.
The furniture consists of warm brown leather sofas -one 3 seater and one 2 (hopefully picture is
below) and the rest of the furniture is oak and a bit mid-centuryish in
style I guess. The walls will (probably)
be paintedin F and B Borrowed Light (a good suggestion on here thanks to Minnie when
I was just starting this project). The
chimney breast is going to be papered with a light blue damask-type pattern.

Any thoughts on where I could head with the floor colour
please?

Thanks in advance,
