A patterned cushion on the little chair will work wonders and art work - when you can manage it - that is bigger and has some brightness to it. I prefer the white curtains - the navy is too solid and heavy. If you put your nice ottoman back in there under the window - again with a throw or colourful cushion - and try the chest of drawers at the foot of your bed (when you have some strength and aren't tired) the furniture will look better. I like the idea of chandelier bedside lamps. If you do that, get one much taller than what you have now. What is your overhead lighting? There are nice round chandelier type shades you can get that'll throw the light around the room nicely. I still covet your lovely dresser :)...See MoreUpdating to a modern living space
Comments (7)Dont underestimate the design , finish and looks of a nice staircase. it looks like there is a wall between entrance and the staircase, i would make sure it is opened up, a lovely glass/oak staircase or similar that winds will transform entrance. Also, it looks like the wall between dining and Kitchen needs to come down. I would also try and incorporate a couple of double doors into rooms, will open the space up, provide more light into the middle of the house. Also, maybe try and get a feature glass window in the refurb, either in single storey roofline or a slim glass window pinching light but also as a feature. Underfloor heating downstairs a must for me. Drawing room is very long so i might ( if space ) convert front part of drawing room to a study (use current wc for entrance and move this ) then use current study as Family/kids tv room and then connect the spaces from kitchen.util/ kids room together to allow walking between. No need to walk through utility with right design tweaks. Good luck, just some initial ideas to mull over!...See MoreOur update of our 1930s tired lounge.
Comments (9)What a stunning transformation and glad you managed to keep the walnut flooring. My favourite part of the room is the mirror above the fireplace as its really unusual. The whole room fits very well together and is nice and bright and agree with molly20100 that is is very inviting. Would be good to see your next room!...See MoreRefurbish or Replace Kitchen?
Comments (6)What is a buried sink? I’ve not heard that expression before. You will need to see if you can match the exiting fascias to add to them. In the area where I live we do have companies who do what you’re trying to do. One company who will do all that, so these people do exist but it depends where you live as to who is available. On the other hand I’m aware of kitchen companies that will not undertake such a task as it‘s what they’d describe as messy (meaning lots of bits). Regarding mainstream suppliers, IMO, no, don’t go there. There are many small individual companies who will offer you a much better customer service and they will be no more expensive. Wren have a FB site full of complaints. Have you got plumbing and ventilation facilities where you intend to move the WM and TD to? if it were me I’d be tempted to rip it all out and start afresh but I guess it’s all down to budget, but having said that it might not work out much difference in the labour price when they are simply constructing new carcases as opposed to chipping and chopping....See MoreHitchings & Thomas Ltd
