Hi Annie. I'm not sure I would paper that ŵall as I think it may make the proportions of the ŵall out. I would paint both the panelling and ŵalls up to the ceiling. You seem to favour pale neutrals so perhaps in either a pale but warm grey or stone? Which way does the room face and how much light does it get? I'd swap the art over the fire for maybe an oval shaped mirror hung landscape to bring more light in. Add some lighter cushions to your sofa in silvery grey and pale taupes in a mixture of solids and patterns. I'm not sure where you're based so do you mean you're changing the rug as the carpet looks new? I agree, if in budget, I would add a coffee table. You could keep accessories simple with flowers/plants and piles of books.

Rapscalli, what style of interiors do you prefer, traditional, contemporary or eclectic? At the moment, your sofas are more contemporary but the arches are traditional. From the photo, it appears that you have a relatively modern house (low ceilings) so tap the walls above the niches to see if they're hollow. If they are, you could remove the arches and have cupboards and shelves built in, up to the ceiling. If you don't need a large desk, you could build one into the recess right of the chimney breast that drops down, or slides out when needed. An easy chair could then be positioned in front of the window, facing a sofa opposite. Regarding your sofas, you might want to consider selling the larger one and replacing it with another 2 seater that matches the easy chair. As your sofas are white (or cream) leather, if you retain one or both, that would be your starting point for a colour scheme. With a north facing room that receives little light due to window cover for privacy, you need to choose between a rich but deep colour for your walls that create a cozy haven or a light pastel scheme to try and lighten the space. Plantation shutters are a good choice for the bay window. I recommend 2 tiers so that you can open the top row if you wish and get to the ventilation window. White would give you the most light reflection, but you can have shutters painted or stained in any number of colours. Keep in mind that they are not easy to recolour, so stick with something neutral if you plan to live in the house a long time. Traditional library colours to create cozy spaces are hunter green, raspberry and deep gold, all of which will cocoon you while reading and lounging around. The fire surround can be primed and painted a contrast colour to the walls. If you keep your large upholstered pieces neutral, add colour with a colourful area rug that is large enough to fit under the front legs of the sofa(s) and easy chair and cushions. Finally artwork that you love arranged around the room.

Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light

Hi Kay, I think it depends on what you wanted in the way of style. Would you rather something 'busy', heavily patterned, soft, neutral, plain? I can see yellow in rooms off the side and the stairs and green in the window glass so I would stick with that combination of colours - with the white and maybe touch of grey. A combination of those in pattern or one of those as a single colour depending on the look you are after. You want it lined for warmth and probably weighted to keep it from blowing and moving too much when the door is opened. Going by some of the styling that is already going on I would consider going with a velvet type material - But I would really need to know more and see the style and fabrics in some of the other rooms before I could commit to that :) I hope that helps
