Kids play tree den

Hi love the sleepy hollow tree house.

What is the rules on having something similar in a garden next to a neighbours fence?
Is there a max height issue and how much would i be looking at for something similar?

We've gone for one of each again this year. I'd echo the sentiments of the smell of the real tree being almost magical. The real tree is in the sitting room - and this is basically the wife's. She has full control over this bad-boy. She chooses the decorations, the lights, where things go, what colour scheme (for some reason the lights in this picture look blue. They're not, they're just a different 'white' - phone cameras hey). The fake tree is in the kids room (aka the conservatory) - this is decorated by the kids, and basically they just stand there and throw as much stuff as they can get their hands on in the direction of the tree and see what sticks. I did have to wait till they went to bed to 're-locate' some of the accessories, as 90% of is was only decorated up to waist level.

This to me is a perfect play room. Tables are so flexible- you can make a den under them, build a train track round them and most importantly paint and craft on them! Plus have accessible storage on one wall and floor space at one end (and a basket for muddy boots by the door!)

Yes you’re right, the way they use the room will change over time. The kids don’t play together on their own yet but it won’t be long plus I like to vary the rooms they play in especially if we’re stuck inside for a longer amount of time. I don’t want to add sliding doors further down the line as it’s a bigger project and going to cost a fair bit anyway so I don’t want to do it twice especially the flooring. The hallway is going to be slate just like the kitchen but think that if we have it open to that area too then it’ll have to be slate as it would look a little odd with kardean through there. Thats a good idea re storage. We’re looking st getting built n cupboards but having all the small bits in baskets so they’re tidy. I also do a lot of work from home as im a teacher so need a bit of space for my things too

We did love some of the suggestions above… but stuck with our original plan! Although we did change the kitchen layout from U-shaped to ”farmhouse” style, with the table in the middle and sink under the window overlooking the garden. The old dining room has become an office with two desks - partly due to COVID and the need to work from home and homeschool etc! We have also moved a lot of the children’s toy storage in here although they still bring things into the main lounge to play where there’s more room. At 8 and 5, they also actually now keep and play with a lot of toys in their rooms, so I think the old dining room will remain as more of a computer and homework room - it’s nice being able to shut the door! The ”study” on the plan is very much a workshop/gym/play room for my husband! We didnt want to sacrifice that space. It might turn into a teenage den later on perhaps, or even a downstairs bedroom for my Nan. The small upstairs bedroom has become a second office as I’m also still working from home (and my husband has too many meetings downstairs!). It houses our sofa bed too so acts as a spare room and my space to do yoga and sewing. Overall, we are pleased with how everything turned out. We quite like the option to have space away from each other and the flexibility to change the use of the different rooms. We do all spend a lot time together in either the kitchen or main lounge as plenty of space in both.
