Could you possibly tell me what the dimensions of the island are please? it's just the sort of design I'm looking for, thank you

Hi, the island is 3m x 1.2m. You may also be interested to know that the kitchen is made by roundhouse. Hope this is useful!

I agree with many of the comments on here in that if they really work in the space you have then why not? However they don't work for every space and other ideas can make the kitchen easier to work within and still have an impact. In our kitchen a peninsular worked best. It is 90 cm wide so I have kitchen units one side and on the dining side I have a long shelf for all my cookery books, drawers underneath that, and a cabinet for our water softener. There is an overhang at one end with stools for 2 people. I could have fitted an island in, but it would have ended up much smaller and less useful than the peninsular, with less storage.

How do you plan to use it? How many people typically at a time and each doing what? How do you want it to feel? When you're cooking, sitting on the sofa, eating at the dining table, or sat at the island/peninsula - how do you want to feel at each space? If you can answer these questions then this will help you identify which is better. Hey Andrew, It's great to see the lovely ideas everyone has, a lot of the ideas could be a better fit for the kitchen. Opening the kitchen up to the dining space is an excellent idea, it's functional, creates a better workflow and introduces a multi-use aspect to the space. My idea would be to build cabinetry with tall, base and wall units along the 3.35M back wall, and a central island with base units and a sink, alternatively you could move the sink to the back wall and have a venting hob like Bora or a ceiling vented hob on the island. Hi Rhys, Hope you have made some decisions, regarding this project that will suit the way you will use and utilise this space. Have you thought about a central island which: - Could be customised and tailored to match your kitchen cabinets as well as the dimensions of the space (slimline) - Is moveable (and lockable once placed centrally in the kitchen area) and could be neatly stored on the wall (as pictured). Take into account the opening of the cupboards on the back wall opposite (you would have to move the central island to accommodate this request! - In addition it could be moveable that slots and locks under the breakfast bar area, with a narrowing to one side to accommodate two breakfast bar chairs (or as suggested on the posts a breakfast bar on the wall mounted in the area near the wine rack back wall) - Ask Wren: to provide a few variations on the colour cabinet design - so you can obtain a feeling of how a lighter colour cabinet would feel in the space also! Hope this helps!
