New Lounge - Please Help!
Comments (11)Hi Lisa. Sounds like progress has been made! Have you changed where the log burner is going? So is the charleston on the short ŵalls? Re the floor, you could try karndean, I've heard one bad report with dogs but everyone else seems to rave about it! Or a solid hardwood floor? Just pick a lighter colour so if any scratches do happen they won't show up. You can obviously also sand a solid floor after x years. You don't have to add pattern for the blinds if you're struggling. You could just add in cushions, rug etc. This pic is in your ŵall colour and looks cosy with tartan etc. you could also bring in a floral pattern, appreciate you may want a bit more colour than this though...See MoreLounge Diner Long Terrace House

Important to know where doors are, which way they open, where windows are, how far they are above the floor. Then, when you go furniture shopping, make sure you know the measurements of the items that you like. Go home and cut the pieces out to scale and put them on your floor plan. Or go to your new home and put paper or tape on the floor, to the size of the item you're thinking of placing there. That will give you an idea of how much space is left to move around. Here's an idea of what you could do. I obviously had to guess where the bump outs are, the size of the windows, whether there's a second door in the front part of the room. Click on the drawing to enlarge. I've put your dining area in the front room, and put built ins in the alcoves of the back room. You can put your TV there. If you like you could put a fireplace on the chimney bump....See MoreT-shaped lounge diner, please help arrange furniture!
Comments (8)Yes, it's a complete nightmare! Thank you both for replying. We have tried dividing the room with the large sofa, where the smaller armchair is, and the TV used to be on the patterned wall. The smaller armchair went where the TV is. Whatvwe found was that there wasn't much space between the two chairs to get in and out of the kitchen - the chairs are both very deep so they really come into the room . when the chair was where the TV is I always felt like I was missing something that was going on behind me - that sounds silly, I know!! I love the idea of zoning with a rug and a coffee table would be so handy - currently we have to twist right round to reach the tables on either side of the sofa. If you'd have a writing desk where the TV currently is, what would you do with the armchair? At the moment it feels like there are two chunks of wasted space on either side of the big sofa. Yes, yes, yes to the yellow and grey! I love your photos, and it would really lift the dark wallpaper. I bought the cushions for Christmas 2015 and didn't change them afterwards, so a fresh look is long overdue! Thank you again for your ideas, feel free to throw more suggestions around - I'll try anything!...See MoreLounge layout. Ideas please
Comments (9)It’s probably too long for one seating area. I’d have a sofa opposite what used to the be the fire and a chair in front of the window. To avoid the corridor feel you need to add things in the middle of the space, so add a coffee table/ottoman (a round one I think would work better) and bring the sofa away from the wall a little. Use a rug to zone that area. You could have a reading area at the kitchen end of the room? If you paint the shorter walls a darker tone it will ”correct“ the rooms proportions. Mirrors on the long walls can help but think about what it reflects! I think painting the skirting boards in the wall colour will help too as your eyes are just drawn to the white atm...See Morerlfan82
