Great idea. Please describe the bed frame and mattress.

In the picture is a Sealy Optimum mattress on top of a Sealy adjustable bed base. Most mattresses made today (with the main exception of 100% innerspring mattresses) can be put on an adjustable bed base (which would take place of the boxspring). The adjustable bed base allows for you to raise your head and feet (depends on the model) to achieve a zero gravity position for optimum sleep. It also can help alleviate snoring, leg and back pain by taking the pressure off those areas. There are several adjustable bed bases to choose from, we carry several brand models including Sealy, Enso, Tempur-Pedic and more. The bases themselves have different price points and each have different features such as massage feature, cordless remotes, head and/or feet adjustable options and more. We have many in our store to try out including the mattresses and adjustable bed bases.

Hi Abbie, I came across this discussion in the forum and it looked like a house with lots of potential and I couldn't resist sketching out an idea. Did the purchase go through? I thought that a side and rear extension wouldn’t add much space whilst also costing significantly more. But a rear extension which is slightly wider than the original house would be very beneficial. Downstairs the old kitchen becomes a utility and W/C. The hallway opens onto an L shape kitchen/dining/living room, which is also attached to the front lounge with double sliding doors. Upstairs the existing bathroom becomes an ensuite for a new master bedroom with a dressing area. A new bathroom is added in part of bedroom 2 which is enlarged into the extension. Bedrooms 3 and 4 also slightly increase in size. Please let me know what you think? I have a few more alternative ideas as well. And I wish you all the best with your project!! Phill

Perhaps you could make the front room a bedroom, with split your bedroom in two to create a second bedroom, then create a large open plan kitchen - diner - lounge through the middle, and put the bathroom at the back where the current second bedroom is. That way you get 2 bedrooms (second bedroom would be a bit bigger than the current one and in a better location), plus the whole space will feel a lot bigger. This is just a suggestion based on how I would alter it if it was mine. But it's your home so it needs to work for you! I'm stumped. Can't see how to do it well. So offering an alternative, though you probably already have this as a back up plan. How about dividing a room with furniture and curtains? Ikea do a sound absorbing curtain (mixed reviews) and googling "bunk bed room divider" finds some interesting images, also shows there are lots of people trying to give children their own space in a shared bedroom.
