HELP - Turning a bachelor pad into a family home
Comments (13)Ok, been a while but we have (slowly) but doing some things. 1) New kitchen shelves and new wall mounted spice rack (ikea picture shelves), 2) New white unit at the back of kitchen (with new coffee machine on it) 3) Mirror on the wall about white unit 4) Two new more modern ceiling flights to replace the chandeliers 5) Painted the entire room myself, except the ceiling as you can see. I simply don't have a ladder tall enough to get up there as the ceilings are so high. 6) New PVC table cloth to stop my 8 month old ruining the wooden table. 7) To the left of the new white unit, got rid of wine fridge (did shed a tear) and bought a new standard fridge to help with the load of the other fridge - so we now have a fridge for veggies / fruit and my sons food and one for meat / drinks/ cheese etc The result, i think, is a much nicer, lighter and spacious room and we've managed to create a hell of a lot more cupboard and fridge space for ourselves which was much needed. I hated the old chandeliers and i'm delighted with the new lights we chose. I'll do some better photos soon but wanted to update this. Thanks to all who made comments and suggested things ! (of course all the entire apartment is 100% High CRI Dimmable LED Lights (my own company). Chris...See MoreOpen shelving design in kitchen
Comments (5)Have a look at this one, a combo of open but not entirely open shelving. Have a look at this open shelving compromise, I think it looks great. I would go for either metal or thin wood shelving. If you go for wood, steer clear of chunky ones, they will "weight" the kitchen down. In terms of size, if you're not installing a cooker hood then go the full width of the wall, an option is for the top shelf to be shorter as per picture below to avoid a "solid" feel. In your wall 2 shelves would look great (3 might look busy and it will be harder to keep a clean tidy look daily). great kitchen btw...See MoreNew kitchen - splashback and shelving decision
Comments (13)Thank you so much everyone for all the comments and ideas! I am definitely swaying towards tiles now or the opaque glass in same colour as wall. Very helpful to see other ideas too with some different style Splashbacks etc. Thanks for taking time to show a design on my photo that’s really helpful. I see what you mean about the shelves needing to be quite small on right hand side of hob. I was thinking of 1 or 2 small ones on that side and longer ones on other side. But yes other option is to have something more decorative on right hand side... but we already have a big brass/black antique style clock for the opposite wall which is a dark grey (see extra pic- but clock not up yet!). I will definitely post an update once we decide and get it done Thanks again Laura...See Moreblack shelv new work
