Comments (37)Thanks guys. Comfort has been important to us. One of the reasons I like most leather sofas is that they can be quite firm and supportive. I hate sinking into a sofa and then struggling to get out. Wife likes fabric because it's more comfortable - she finds leather very cold in winter for example. But we both agree on the firmness so we have been trying out sofas. The wallpaper is generally very light - it doesn't come across as overpowering in real life. It's certainly more interesting than plain white/magnolia/cream walls. We both struggle with artistic vision so ideas and thoughts are what we both need to help decide. The aim was to have light/plain furniture and then have bright or contrasting colours for cushions, curtains and lampshades for example. Something to contrast with the "plain" decor....See MoreNew house - new living space
Comments (16)The kitchen is very tricky not knowing whether you can reuse any of the cupboards and worktop... Move the washing machine to utility and install cupboard. Move the oven to the left of where it is now. Install shelves on the back of the kitchen wall. I'd keep the dresser where it is. If you did have to get some new units maybe consider a U shaped where the bin is now, you can always mix and match. The dining table can probably be swung the other way and moved away from the wall. There's a 4ft gap between the edge of my table and base units which is fine. I'd get 2 x 2 seater sofas and have them at right angles to the fire away from the walls with a coffee table in the middle. I'd get a smaller tv, sorry.. Leave the tv on the right wall but put in a cupboard door on the left alcove to match. This does mean you can only watch TV from one sofa though. If that's a problem then try an L shaped sofa on the left hand wall if you're facing the fire. Either of these options should leave you with room for cabinets against the walls for storage. Are the windows deeps enough to use as window seats?...See MoreNew house, how to make it a cosy home?
Comments (28)I love how you've kept the character alive in a tasteful eclectic mix. I think you may like a splash of colour in the bathroom by adding a canvas roman blind in a bold teal with a coordinating runner rug and some luxurious towels. A wall mounted rack for folded towels above the loo, will interrupt the monotone of the wall as may a plant or some. Also some woven floor baskets or quirky toiletpaper or magazine container to add interest....See Morestruggling with proportions and sizes of coffee table and 2 end tables
Comments (22)I think you're right jessa61, about waiting. The thing is, as you said, you're not in the house yet. When you get in and the floors, walls are ready and the main sofa is in, then add to it. You may dislike what you have in your head as soon as you see it all in situ, you may not. I really like the last table you posted, it's great with the sofa, and, in truth, i actually really dislike all the thin framed marble top tables around at the moment. It's not a trend i'm on board with. I would definitely wait for the accent chairs. Chesterfields are beautiful and statement pieces, however, they can be uncomfortable to sit on for long, there's no upper body / neck support and you can't lounge on them. So, this is why i personally think they go very well with high backed armchairs. You lounge on the armchairs with your feet up on the footstools. Also, you say you want two footstools, which is great to go with the armchairs, but you sound like you want to sit on the sofa and have them in front of you, which will be difficult with a coffee table in the way. The footstools can stay with the armchairs and be occasional seating, yes, the chesterfield needs to sit with the coffee table in front of it, not footstools. I think the side tables are a good idea, i'm not sure about the height you need, i'd wait to see how you use the seating before deciding. The height may be irrelevant and you may not want lamps on them at all....See More- 10 years ago
