Continued my short dark hallway, help!

As you enter the flat on your left is a storage cupboard , then left turn into w/c & bathroom , on the right nearly opposite bathroom is the bedroom , next to bedroomis lounge,which is opposite kitchen.need some help with decoration & lighting , light switch is situated between bedroom & lounge doors

Hi. Kindly be a bit more specific;
Decoration of ...? Lighting where? (How is the location of the light-switch significant?)
Are you redecorating the flat, or putting up Christmas decorations?

Sounds like it is a small space with lots of doors.
Personally I would have several LED spotlights put in the ceiling and get a dimmer. Then I would either paint everything the same pale colour and add mirrors or I would paint it a deeper colour and create a gallery of family pictures in pale frames

Very much like my hall (almost identical except ours is 1922 and thus the detail is a tad more Edwardian in influence) ! I've added a wall light on the wall going up the stairs and matching pendants from Fritz Fryer and added a plain paper from Zoffany (called 'silk plain') . Thus the basic scheme is very plain and layered up with artefacts (tables, hall chair, paintings). I've added mirrors to throw light around the place..and am hunting for a distressed antique one to go right at the top of the stairs facing you. It looks as though your stairs go to left and right too... so adding the mirror will I think create more light and ambiance in that rather dark junction. I do agree that it would be lovely to have the stained glass replaced in the door. I added full door curtains with a upholstered pelmet over the door which makes it look much less stark (personally I don't think the little shelf at right adds anything and I'd remove it ;( ). . I chose an embroidered linen from Sanderson for the curtains and used the same fabric for the landing window and hooked that back with a French swan neck holdback and they were hung from a brass reeded Jim Lawrence curtain pole which goes very well with the Fritz Fryer lighting fitments. It's still work in progress as our beautiful carpet had to be removed due to allergy and we're still trying to get the best result on the oak floor in the hall. Be lovely to see what you do given your layout is so similar! :)

I would add colour, perhaps change the floor depending on budget and add some nice storage where you hang your clothes rather than leave it open. You can have some kind of console under the stairs with lighting and a round mirror to make the place look spacious and perhaps small pendants , 3 or so, along the corridor. Definitely looks like it needs brightening up and lighting is key. However of course it depends on what you doing with the rest of the house, for example you could even change the stairs and have a nice runner . It is not just the hallway, but the entrance to your house and it all has to flow!

Well the half wall is down :) I have a carpenter on the way to look at boxing in the pillar with the fuse boxes and cutting the step either diagonally across or circular. I'm thinking about replacing the carpet with a runner and assume I could do that with either shape? I'm either going for F&B Stiffkey Blue (2 in from the left, second up from the bottom), F&B Hague Blue (2 in from the right, second up from the bottom) or Valspar Play me a melody (first column, second from the top). Stiffkey and the Valspar are looking a bit too blue and Hague Blue may be too dark so going to paint bigger areas and see how they come out.

I'm totally with E D on this one. I actually like the wood, and the pale walls, it has a bit of a Barbican vibe to it. I would consider painting the door at the back a very dark colour such as Railings to shorten the space and install some really good quality LEDs. I would keep it pale, if the pure white is a bit cool then F&B Wimborne White takes the edge off the coolness. You could also put in a really bright vintage runner such as a Moroccan one like this. Etsy has lots of beautiful ones.
