Want to change look to contemporary

Want to change look to contemporary without painting cabinets, which is out of the question at this time. Thoughts? Installing new counter tops and flooring and am open to suggestions on those as well.

The table is what I'd change to make the room look more modern and also the light fixture.

It's hard to tell what you don't like about the counters or the floors from just one small picture.

I have always been attracted to the Carmel-by-the-Sea houses designed by Comstock...the interiors are often decorated casually, with comfy sofas, chairs, maple & cherry furniture and nature-inspired art and accessories. Big fantasy. In real life, we are retired on Cape Cod, Massachusetts and live in a 1200 sq.ft. condo one block off a large town's Main St. and two miles from any beach. Except for the building and location, we have the rest...not sure if our decor is English casual, English coastal or ???, but I wouldn't change it, except to buy better quality sofa and chairs.

Hi, thanks for all the comments. the reason I ask this question is I already have these in my utility with a wide grout join. I would like to use these tiles in my kitchen but I have been advised the grout needs to me no more than 4mm which is an issue as the grout in my utility is 10mm. Would the different grout lines be noticeable to the eye ? You would have to walk through the utility to gain access to the kitchen which may cause a problem. Apparently the small grout lines appear more contemporary, ive never heard of this before, so I have learnt something new. Thanks everyone

As MATH says we can't really see the table in the space properly so difficult to say. If you have a voucher for JL, why not have a look at the tables on their website to see if anything takes your fancy. I think what is confusing things is, it would appear that the pictures of the kitchen with the table are from an Estate Agent listing, so we're not sure if it's a house you're buying or selling or what. If you're selling why would you want to change the table?

I would suggest as others have, a bigger porch, will allow you more storage as well,particularly when it's wet outside. Also, perhaps render or paint the extension and porch to tie them together, but to do the whole thing might be too blocky and monolithic. Do the windows work for you from the inside? You might find that if, for example, you do the porch and extension in white, the windows aren't so obvious. If they don't work for you, look at making them larger and more symmetrical. They seem quite small for the house.

One the main ways we would change to a more modern look is to paint the cabinets. Since that is a no-go I would change fixtures and furniture. Go white with the counters. You have to think ahead for when you reface the cabinets.

A few relatively easy changes:

1. Replace the traditional designed table and chairs with a contemporary design.

2. Swap out the cabinet handles and knobs. It's hard to tell from the small photo what they are, but this is an easy way to change the look of a kitchen.

3. Replace the light fixture.

Painting would definitely be a must, however, short of that look into Quartz or granite tops and tiles that look like wood for the flooring.
