Need help with my kitchen design for rear extension
Attached my drawing which had been approved for planning permission and dilemma wether to keep the Bath/shower near rear patio doors or move it to existing kitchen area.
if I need to move shower , I am looking to adjust for living room space , any ideas to support is thankful.

Comments (7)My 4.2 x 8m flat roof (fibre glass) extension with 3 rooflights and Alu bi-folds and side window & k rendered - plus electrics & plumbing/fitting of a downstairs bathroom & utility plus remodelling inside walls and replastering existing room and new room all came in at around £41k No floorings No heating panels if we want infra red vs using our old rads) No furniture ie no kitchen or bathroom Unpainted (prefer to do myself!) We are cutting down the utility to remove an external door cost, might skip the side kitchen window as will be light enough and taking out one roof light as two should be plenty as south facing. Could save by not having bifolds of course or going for white doors/windows instead of black/grey but some things I’m not willing to compromise on. Spent months looking at smaller options to reduce the size but came across more issues so stuck with the original. Firstly as suggested, a size would help and so would a floor plan as there might be ways of remodelling your internal layout so a smaller extension could work. The reason I did it the original way is I have made an assumption that the current garage is built on the boundary with the neighbours (as was often the case in the 60s) and a two storey replacement would have to be 1m from the boundary. This means that building on the garage side of the house would be about 1 1/2 garages wide. However I think the hallway is simpler this way and the upstairs is better although the dining table does get displaced....See More

8 years agoYou shouldn't put in a downstairs bathroom right by the garden opening into the kitchen it's just daft!. If you need a loo, put it by the stairs. Take away the return units either end of the kitchen, they spoil the line of units, and as you open the door into the kitchen diner to your left will be a kitchen unit wider than the wall, also, will not look right! If you put a bathroom in, you ruin the Bi-fold doors, which won't really be possible in a space of 6ft. Also, putting a flat roof on a space that big doesn't work too well, unless you put in a roof lantern. You need a pitch roof with veluxes otherwise no light to the back of the existing dining room.

8 years agoDefinitely no way!! You would regret losing part of the view to the garden. And it just doesn't make sense to have a bathroom off kitchen. Either do as bagpuss' plan above, or use that whole space for a shower/ bathroom if you need more facilities. If it was me, I'd like a utility area somewhere, perhaps you could combine this with shower room? Or have two separate rooms, wc and a single wall utility. If you do any laundry at home it is useful to have a dedicated space for this. Mine is

approx 1.5m square but I'd be lost without it!! Attached pic of one Houzz one I like (seems to have popped into the middle somehow!) Wouldn't have to be this big even. And although it depends on your budget, I'd definitely try and get a pitch roof or a lantern in that ceiling to let in more natural light.
