Need help for my Garden room lighting

I am looking for suitable lighting for the ceiling of our garden room which is under construction (design impression above). We are thinking of a quality LED dimmable spotlights mounted on the trusses. The door furniture is black and bronze for colour matching.

How many spot lights, what light output?

Hi. I'm fairly new to this site, but whilst I can't help you with the number and output of your light fittings, another couple of suggestions. You are creating an exciting and distinctive open ceiling. As long as the colour between the joists is white you might consider using uplighting and then reflected light from the ceiling to light the space, thereby leaving the open ceiling free of lights and wires/conduit. Wall mounted fittings could do this for you.

Also consider lumen and colour temperature carefully for the lamps as well as the wattage.

You may have considered and dismissed all of the above, but if not I hope it helps.

We wanted some guidance for a garden room similar to yours. Nothing installed yet but service so far has been second to none and we have had visuals as well as electrical plans prepared. These have included the area immediately outside on the terrace.

Hi Anne-Marie, I would definitely pick a colour that makes you feel you're outside so the room flows into the garden. In my summer house I used a Valspar colour called bottle fly wing which changes with the weather. It looks pale grey on cloudy days and pale blue on sunny days. I kept the floor a similar colour to the deck outside so that also flowed as one. See link below. Summer house / garden room

Wow! that is a steep garden:) I think you're right about creating access from the back room on the upper floor of your house. I'd get advice from an architect to see if this is feasible. It would take some serious landscaping but you could also create a zig zag path to another tier as well.

This would look like a beautiful seating area, to enjoy the views from. If you have a large eating area within the house, I would use this area as a lounging area. I can see some ratten effect furniture with a centre table and plants to decorate. That would look lovely. Perhaps go for cream or white furniture to keep the scheme light and airy. Or go with wood to compliment the wood in the build.

I like Carolina's suggestion, that way you have a choice of 'cosy' space but can easily swivel the chairs if you have more guests. I would rethink the lighting too (yes I'm biased!) but something less distracting will help give better balance to the room. "Feature walls" have had their day, but every room needs an anchor point, so something like a huge mirror or piece of artwork is lovely.

Hi. The room looks as if it going to be great. Personally I would be reluctant to have lots of spots on the trusses as it may ruin the look. I'd go for a statement light hanging off the centre beam ( or 3 smaller). This may sound naff and I apologise in advance if so (!) but what about lots of randomly placed mini led dimmable downlights in the gaps between the trusses ( assuming there's room as they need a bit of space behind the board). It would give the effect of a starry night which could be perfect for a garden room! I'd also have the downlights and pendant wired to separate switches.
