New Quartz countertop sitting on shims
Comments (3)It's an awkward one. No it shouldn't be like that. It's not awful and I doubt the Quartz is compromised, but it's not perfect and if you're not happy then ..................Check for level.by looking at the bottom of all the units, do they line up? The problem is with the units, not specifically the fitting of the work top. It's the poorly fitted units that have caused the problem with the worktop. However, this should have been noticed and checked for level and that they were solid before the worktop went on. So, as often is in these situations it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. I'm presuming that the reason the fitter used shims is because the cupboard below wouldn't go up any further or it would have been completely out of line with the others for whatever reason? The doors are easily adjusted back to level, but the carcass should have been right to start with. Could this be happening because the floor isn't solid? There should have been no movement, especially not that much? I'm wondering if there was a little bounce in the floor such as you may get on floorboard with boarding over the top and the weight of the quartz affected that? I'd take it back up with the worktop fitter and the kitchen fitter together on site....See MoreTall wall cabinets or additional countertop for kitchen
Comments (13)I think Minnie's right, you have 1m of prep space and that includes any space you want for a drainer for the sink. I think you need the extra space at the back, not maybe for the prep, which you could do in the 1m between hob and sink, but for the kettle, toaster, coffee maker maybe, preparing drinks etc. The space is very tight and I think the storage is quite limited. I put the Fridge Freezer in the big grey cabinet, so you could see the difference between it and the rest of the units as it juts out. This i think can be improved upon too:- I would integrate the Fridge Freezer as the space is small and will look a lot better with a flat profile:-...See MoreBest oven configuration?
Comments (31)I prefer the rectangular island as in your last posting, but would move the ovens to the left, giving two full doors to the right alongside the door into the room. I fully agree with all the comments regarding accessible worktop for placement of hot items straight from the oven, you do not want the ovens directly opposite the hob. The I also think that it would look better!...See MoreHow to cut laminate countertop?
Comments (3)I see you have the old fashioned metal joining strips, so it would be possible to remove each section of worktop over the 150 units. You will also need to run a stanley knife through the silicon under the tiles. Once you have your oven in place, simply measure how much you want to cut off and then use a circular saw with a fine tooth blade, clamp a straight edge to the worktop so you have a straight cut, cut with good side down and always into the bullnose. You already have metal end caps so refit those. Have a practice first if you've never used a circular saw and when you measure you need to allow for the blade thickness and set the blade depth correctly as well. Plenty of instructions on you tube....See MoreRenovation Management by Bastani Consultants
