Deceunink Slide and Swing Doors

Does anyone have experience with Deceunink Slide and Swing Doors? We are considering them or bifold doors for a 4m opening in our kitchen. Thanks

Good morning Emma,

Unfortunately I do not have any knowledge on this company and the uPVC bifolds they manufacture, however I would personally like to inform you that there are many benefits to having aluminium bi-folding doors rather than plastic doors. please email me at enquiries@designbifolds.co.uk if you are interested in receiving a quote for smarts aluminium bifolding doors.

Thanks Matt, we were going for aluminium bifolds for our 4m opening but came across this company and like the swing and slide mechanism. I am slightly concerned that they are not aluminium but am really interested in finding out more about the doors of this design.

Hi Justin, thank you for taking the time to reply to our query. It is difficult to compare systems because Deceuninck have not published very much technical information about that specific product on their website, but whilst in general terms uPVC may be able to perform fractionally better for U-values than aluminium (it depends on the system), our experience is that with slide and swing doors the weather rating (water tightness, air permeability and wind loading) tend to be much lower. I would also query the information you were given about security. The reason I say that is I cannot find any reference to their slide & swing doors having been tested to PAS24 standards (Building Regs Doc Q) or Secured by Design award standards. The technology of slide and swing doors is developing quickly, but it is starting from nearly 25 years behind bifold doors so will take some time to catch up - that said they are moving along quickly and in certain circumstances offer an alternative to bifold doors. Bifold or Sliding doors dilemma?

We decided on a sliding door ( 1 fixed panel plus one sliding) for our 4.2m wide opening in our soon to be built house. This worked for us as we didn't want too much frame to block our view. I will have a table to be positioned fairly near the fixed panel. Most of all it was because I could control our dog going in and out by varying the opening...he likes to sit by our present sliding door and put his look out thru the gap and look out! Make sure you get a handle/locking system that's robust, some of the ones I looked at seemed really fiddly and a bit fragile for a triple glazed 2m wide door that's used a lot.

Curtains are a no from me instead of doors. I always think they’ll attract dust. If you want to add some colour to detract from the sterile look could you paint the existing wardrobe doors? If not then go for the sliders.

I have a pocket door between our little study and the sitting room. It’s hung from the ceiling so does not require a frame but requires a recess. It works well for this area and the little lock mechanism locks. However, I would not recommend this for a toilet. It does not provide the noise insulation you would like for a loo.

The choice between system is a personal one, and there are similar systems on the market in aluminium. We have tried and tested a number of slide & swing systems on the market and never been comfortable with the performance or quality of the product to add it to our range.

I would also question some of supposed benefits of a slide and swing system over bifold doors, but again the choice of door type is a personal one.
