What colour hallway will work well with stained glass?

We're halfway through renovating our Edwardian semi and I am confused as to which colour will go with the stained glass that we have just had installed in our front entrance! I was thinking something along the lines of F&B cornforth White or the Little Greene equivalent, 'dash of soot' (in their hard wearing paint), but I just don't know if they will go well enough? Or be a bit bland? I like colour! Or, a light blue? The floorboards will be bare pine, and I think the skirting and the door frames will be white... Any ideas?

Wonderful stained glass I'm sure you are delighted with it. Re the paint colour for the hallway I think it would depend on what you have chosen for other rooms in the house to make sure it flows. Without considering that point Cornforth grey would work and is a lovely light grey. I would also consider pavilion grey and plummet. Woodwork in white would brighten the space but again maybe painting the woodwork the same colour as the walls would be a bit different.

I meant to say I think a neutral colour for a hallway is easier to live with so I'd be less inclined to paint it blue as this may restrict your colour choices in rooms leading off the hall.

We have the same type of panelling in our hall and it was oak the same as yours with an oak floor. It just started to feel quite dark and drab but we hesitated to to do anything for fear of messing it up. In the end we painted all the panelling in Farrows French grey, left the doors and floors wood and painted the sides of our staircase and the spindles in Farrows clunch but left the newel posts and the bannister rail as wood - looks like a different hallway - I have never regretted painting it

Stay away from cool grey's as they will clash with the floor. However it's possible to get warmer grey tones that will probably work. Try the Dulux Colour palette. I picked out a couple and you could have a darker accent wall at the end of the Hallway, it will make it look longer, and make your mirror stand out. I'd definately stay away from white as it will be too stark with white skirting and white doors. I'd also stay away from Red for the contrast. Depends on the tone, but bright reds and greys together are too much and a little dated. Look on the colour palette and go for opposites if you wish, but maybe raspberry, plum etc. Greens and Blues go better with the grey / grey beige and are more on trend these days. You can order sample pots online and they're only a £1......so choose away.

This looks really great, and I'm particularly interested as we have a similar hall with an artificially narrow entrance (1950s conversion of an 1880s house!) which carries round in an L shape all the way to the back of the flat. We also have the sloping understairs ceiling and the height makes it dark and cold. We've thought of dropping the ceiling and having spotlights as you've done, but it's the floor we're most uncertain about. Our tiles are older than yours and in very poor condition, plus very cold underfoot, so we're still undecided whether to cover up entirely (carpet? engineered wood?), saving the floor for future inhabitants, or actually (eek) taking it up. The majority of the tiled floor is in the communal hallway, so it's still there for people to enjoy. Anyway, sorry - just wanted to say also I love your colour scheme and the panelling isn't something I would have considered but it looks fantastic and we have very similar panelled doors, so I think we should consider it.

I agree with campo, I would try to ensure the the colour complements the rooms leading off of it.

The hall appears a little dark so you could have a look at the warm neutrals by either little Greene or farrow and ball and add colour with art and/or an oriental runner which would suit the house. Or as you love colour maybe paint the walls in ochre (there are some nice shades of it around atm) but I would team with white woodwork in that case as a contrast to the floor

Thanks for the ideas, I'm going to look into plummet and pavilion grey too. We've got the living room a green and the kitchen is white with grey units, nothing else is decorated yet but I have an ochre planned for the dining room which is quite a dark room, with an old inglenook fireplace.

I think I will stay neutral in the hall with a grey.. I have a huge meter to box and consumer unit to box in, then I will mirror up to spread the light around!

I'm a big fan of F&B's Mousesback - which is a lovely grey/brown goes with everything and is a bit more forgiving than cream in a hall.
