Love this look for our new house in Washington state

Is it possible to contact the architect or review the floor plans and design and square footage? I want to see if it will fit on our five acre view lot that is sloped and not necessarily flat. We plan to add a lot of decking and an outdoor kitchen area too. gregory.david.c@gmail.com

Minnie is absolutely right about the wallpaper - whether there is a physical demarkation or not, you will still be creating a false line for the eye that's hardly going to be restful in your living room, and will just look odd. My advice would be to dump the idea of a feature wall and put your desire for a floral pattern into a lovely rug. I assume you are keeping the carpet? It looks light beige in the photos and you need to keep this colour in mind, as well as the black of the sofas, when choosing the rest of the scheme. Maybe have a look at rugs with big, swirly floral patterns in browns and coppers or golds as well as beige and black, then pick colours from that (copper or gold would be lovely) for your cushions and curtains. The walls (and up the staircase wall) I would paint in a very, very light shade of whatever beige or taupe dominates in the carpet (impossible to tell from a photograph so grab some paint charts). If you feeling brave, dark stains such as black look stunning and help the building to visually recede against the backdrop of vegetation. It's the tradition finish for agriculture buildings and has a very contemporary look. I'd contrast it with a pale grey deck or beige gravel or stone if you want something warmer. The building needs grounding in its setting, ie. connect it with a path and some planting to prevent it looking like it's been dropped from space! It's going to be a great facility to have in the garden.

Hi Andrea, How exciting, congratulations. A couple of comments I would make. There is a lot of seating/eating in the kitchen! Do you really need a bistro table, dining table and island? I think the dining table is a must but the snacky casual seating I think either/or! Also as a guest, I hate toilets with two doors! I always think I'm going to forget to lock or unlock them both! I like the concept of the large utility room and I can't quite read all the words on there but can the toilet perhaps stay in its current location (saving ££) and make the kitchen and utility room one space with a new backdoor elsewhere or by shortening the existing toilet wall? Looking at the windows they are grey. To balance I would get a new grey porch. From the age of the house I would think this was built as an open porch that has then been filled in. Any conservatory or window company would be able to replace the whole structure for you with better styling and insulation. The plant looks like a clematis Montana which grows really quickly and needs regular trimming after flowering is over. You might be better training the shrub on the right across the top of the doorway. I would first cut it back against the wall so you can see what you’ve got. It might look a bit shabby initially but will then regenerate - feed it. If you want a climber on the left I would go for Star Jasmine - Trachelospermum Jasminoides. Much easier to control.
