Has anyone put a cooker in a chimney breast?
Comments (6)Hi, I recently designed a kitchen where the range cooker was located in the chimney breast for clients as part of a side return extension, there are a couple of things to look out for: - Is the opening size of the chimney enough for the cooker with tolerance on either side. - The chimney breast will most likely not have an opening height suitable for the height of the cooker so it may need to be raised. Check this dimension and also the clear height that the extractor unit needs to be above an electrical or gas hob. - On raising the opening height the contractor needs to insert a new lintel but we also found the chimney to be completely solid inside and not hollow as we thought so there was no room for the casing of the extractor unit. The contractor basically had to rebuild the chimney breast to suit the requirements for fitting in the extractor unit and having a higher opening which was time consuming and fiddly as we wanted to re-use the Victorian brickwork and have an exposed brick chimney. The end result looked great but I would advise to proceed with caution, it is not as straightforward as it looks or maybe our chimney breast was uniquely challenged. Good luck with your project, I hope this helps....See MoreTo rebuild/tidy original sandstone chimney breast or just whitewash?
Comments (2)I'm no builder but have done similar refurb in the past. If looks like the cheeks (the part under the lintel that holds it up at the sides) is virtually non-existent and may have to be brought in to hold the weight along with the steel. It would look amazing once done. Comments (4)Hi Michelle, Your space looks fantastic; I love the colour scheme you have gone for! Orange is a great accent colour, and a burnt orange shade would look lovely, such as Dulux Nigerian Sands 4. This will work alongside the pavilion grey and the railings colour which you currently have beautifully. Another idea would be to paint your woodwork in Dulux Pure Brilliant White, which will add that extra bit of light to the space, and will look amazing against the grey wall too. http://bit.ly/2fb99EG http://bit.ly/2g4SYbp Good luck with it all and please let me know how you get on! Comments (6)Hi, I know it’s not what you specifically asked (plus really not the best person at layouts 😊 ) but I’m just wondering if the general layout is set in stone? Most people would prefer an open plan kitchen/living at the back with access to the garden etc. It also seems a bit tricky accessing the utility and office. in terms of alternative plans if you do go this route, try OnePlan on here.
