living + kitchen area

Need help with flooring and wall colour for living + kitchen area , not a lot of natural light , but really love the dark wood flooring and neutral colours on here ,living area 18ft x 10ft ,kitchen area 11ft x 10 ft in a reverse L shape with a small sliding door dividing that i'm hoping to knock out ,help please . Just got house so will be a blank canvas once we strip it .Not my furniture .
