Awkward living room with 2 doors - please help!

Ok so after living in our new flat now for almost 2 years we are still struggling with how we can layout our living room. The 2 door ways make us feel as though we are limited with what we can do on the left hand side of the living room. We would definitely like to keep the bookcases and 1 of the sofas, but debating whether to get a table and chairs instead of a second sofa (it is just the 2 of us in the flat). The square in the bottom right hand corner is the corner tv unit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we have been racking our brains and haven't really got anywhere!

I will post actual pictures of our living room at the weekend when I can take some photos, but for now here is the layout:

Hi. You could maybe try moving the bookcase towards the tv a little. Have one sofa directly in front of the bookcase and the other on the window ŵall with the tv in between the doors and a coffee table/footstool in between the sofa. You could also add a lamp table etc to the left of the bottom sofa. You could try a dining table where the top sofa is atm, with a bench one side and chairs the other. Or try moving the left sofa opposite the top sofa with tv in between doors again. You may be able to fit a round table for 2 in that bottom left corner. Could you also change the way that top door opens?

Thank you Minnie, I will move some things about and give that a go. We were always weary about putting the tv elsewhere as the arials etc are in that corner, but I think we may have to as i am not sure how else it will work!

Here are some photos I took today. The walls are a slight off white but due to lighting they are looking quite creamy. We are thinking about changing the carpet to wooden floor as we really do not like the colour. The sofa we want to keep is in the 2nd photo.

@minnie101 top left door will only be used occasionally. I have another sofa option, which is marginally smaller (more practical but less trendy) but has narrower chase which helps a bit with arrangement. I am attaching pictures with 1. Quartz layout 2. Another sofa option - Bari 3. Bari layout (thick masking tape) 4. Bari layout opposite longest wall. 5. Different view of the Bari layout opposite longest wall. Hi. It's hard to tell if this will work as I can't tell the door width but what if you were to build a ŵall to wall bookcase on the desk ŵall incorporating both the tv and radiator? Ignore the design of this one, was just showing a pic of one against a window, You may need to widen the pillar by the dining room entrance slightly. Perhaps ammonite by F&B for the ŵalls with a floor that picks up one of the tones in the table. I'd also paint the coving in the ammonite and a darker shade of grey for the bookcase. Have a 6ft sofa (allowing for side table and lamp) opposite the bookcase (not against the ŵall) with a chair angled in front of the bookcase and perhaps go for an upholstered stool on legs as per your inspiration pic. You could use Romans on the windows, maybe in a vertical stripe and then use geo patterns for the cushions. Re lights I'd add ŵall lights to the bookcase and a flush for the living room, preferably just 7 inches high. You can afford to hang something lower over the dining table. Are you keeping the tall cabinet? I think your current table will look lovely with some upholstered chairs

Well done for waiting 2 years because often our use of a space changes from first thoughts. In the photos the walls are reading a green undertone and the carpet as a pink-beige. I like your idea of replacing the carpet with wood flooring. A few suggestions- wall mount the TV on a moveable arm bracket, change sofa in front of kitchen door with 2 chairs, bring other sofa forward more in line with bookcase, add large rug in front of sofa, put table and chairs against wall under mirror, add a few side tables and lamps / standing lamps, add living or faux foliage for colour. Hi Vicki, Would there be any way you could change the mechanism of the kitchen/hallway/bathroom doors, so they are sliding doors rather than doors that open into the room? I've found this to be a good solution when you're tight on space, though you mentioned you may not be there for long so perhaps this would be too great an investment! I think installing shelving in the recesses around the fireplace would be great - I love this look in a living room. Also regarding the TV above the fireplace - you could get an extending wall bracket so that the length and angle of the TV can be adjusted, in addition to it being able to lie flat against the wall if you wish. Though some aren't fans of this type of bracket! Just a few ideas. Have you decided on any furniture?

Now I've seen the pic I don't think option 2 will work! Have you thought about getting another bookcase so it's wall to ŵall? It looks as if it would fit? Does your tv ( with shelves removed!) fit within the bookcase? Just wondering if you could fit it on a swing out arm? I would leave the top sofa where it and get a footstool as coffee table/exra seating and then zone that area with a rug. Do you also know the measurement between the doors? The ŵalls look great, love the wood floor idea

We have considered it, and it will fit perfectly, it's just a question of where we would we place the TV. It is too wide for the bookcase unfortunately.

It measures 165cm on the flat bit between the doors.

Also, any ideas on the blinds would be great! I don't hate the ones we have but I think there may be a chance to improve them!

That's a shame re the tv! Another option, move the bookcase to where the light grey sofa is with the sofa in front, have the other sofa opposite and the tv where the bookcase is. I don't know if the plan is slightly deceptive? But you may be able to have a small table between the doors. I think your best bet is just to play around with the sofas and draw out a template for table and chairs so you can see what it's like to walk round it etc. Do also consider a dining bench on one side. I would try and bring furniture into the room though ie coffee table etc as it will make it feel bigger and definitely use rug/s to zone living and dining. The blinds are quite nice. Roman blinds, especially if you go for a wood floor, will give a softer look and perhaps with a pattern to introduce some? You could also use curtains depending on room layout if there's room. A table behind a sofa may also work, will see if I can find a pic!
