Could I set back my cooker into the chimney breast?
Comments (2)Oh dear ! That's a bit of a mistake to put an appliance next to one of those types of corners - but to do it twice is a disaster !! A simple solution, might be to move the right cupboard into the place where bins are and put open shelving either side of the cooker - as then the door will be able to open father back in one side - it wouldn't work with just moving the end cabinet to there as the drawer handle would still clash- even if you changed the door handing to move the lower handle out of the way - simple shelves you can buy from somewhere like ikea or a local kitchen shop ?! and the door should open back further - different hinges might help too (not sure which they have put on ? ) Then re use the stone top either side of the cooker and buy a new deeper top ( chopping block might be nice ) over the recessed bit do you have a deep worktop with the cupboard still in line and space for a bin next to it ?!...See MoreOpen plan kitchen diner...incorporating existing chimney breast
Comments (6)Hi there, we deal with this issue on a daily basis, generally we will always try to remove the chimney either to roof space or entirely (including roof stack on main roof). These options do of course involve the party wall and advice and guidance is needed. We do provide our own free PDF advice here. Failing to remove the chimney, you can as you mentioned, have shelving units etc. along that same wall to hide the chimney. Alternatively, you could use the money saved from the removal to purchase a heating system which could be fitted within the existing chimney flue (just a thought!). One piece of advice (hope this isn't out of turn!), your extension beyond the rear of 1500mm internally is a very minimal gain for the expense of the steel work involved in removing the rear wall of your property. We would generally advise against such extensions as you are not gaining enough floor space for the cost of works involved. The only way to save on some of the fabrication/steel costs would be to have a support post where your two large steel beams will meet, this then may impact the open feel you are trying to achieve! If you would like to discuss this further please don't hesitate to get in contact....See MoreChimney Breast Decoration
Comments (14)Thank you everyone for your comments, it is really helpful. jprzym - our house is only 20 years old and is a modern bungalow. We are completely renovating the entire house so hoping to have a rather contemporary finish so this should work well with the overall look. I have looked in to wallpaper but I am not a fan of the wood/tile effect wallpapers thus far. I have a sample for a rough textured wallpaper that I don't mind.. but not in love with! sttop - really helpful to see the corner finish - and for assurance with practicality! I think perhaps getting a tiler in would be the best thing to do. Redecorate - there is some worries around this - the "chimney breast" we have isn't actually a real chimney breast, it's just been built out - would this make damage even more likely? I'll definitely check it out. I probably would only use the fireplace for decoration though! Jude - love the image you sent over - i will definitely check these out, thank you....See MoreHelp with positioning of false chimney breast!
Comments (6)Hi, I know it’s not what you specifically asked (plus really not the best person at layouts 😊 ) but I’m just wondering if the general layout is set in stone? Most people would prefer an open plan kitchen/living at the back with access to the garden etc. It also seems a bit tricky accessing the utility and office. in terms of alternative plans if you do go this route, try OnePlan on here.
